Dear Ann,
We have tried both. Benadryl didn't work very well but we have had some success with
Melatonin. It works quite well for a period of two or three months and then we find that we
have to take Kristy off of it for 2 or 3 weeks because she seems to have built up a tolerance.
This is why we are questioning the doctor wanting to put Kristy on Seroquel in the first place.
We are satisfied with the amount and quality of sleep that she gets using Melatonin and we
have used it for the past couple of years. I'm not as comfortable using prescription meds. One
of our concerns is that Seroquel hasn't been tested for long term use. I don't forsee Kristy's
sleep problems going away anytime soon. Any advice you can give me would be great. Thanks!
: : Hi Theresa,
: I am a pharmacist and I have heard of Seroquel. Before you resort to this
: can you tell me if you have tried Benadryl or Melatonin?
: Thanks,
: Ann

: Has anyone heard of, or tried a medication called Seroquel? My eight year-old daughter's doctor has
: : recommended it for her to help with her sleep problems. We have tried a number of other sleep aids,
: : natural, herbal and medicinal, and so far nothing has helped very much. We feel we are being pressured somewhat into trying this even though it is not used for
: : sleep problems by itself. It is marketed as a drug for schizophrenia. We aren't sure we are
: : comfortable medicating her for symptoms she doesn't even have. Any information or comments would
: : be very helpful. Thanks.
