: Hi there. I am 5 months pregnant and have been having really bad stomach problems. I went to the specialist who gave me a blood test for celiac disease. My stools have always floated and my stomach problems have been for years. I'm only 22.
: I've read that celiac can be the cause or at least associated with autism. Does anyone know if this is true?
: Are there any parents out there who have celiac and did'nt know it during pregnancy?
: I would sure appreciate any info.
: I hope all your little ones are doing well.
: Thanks,
: Lanaya.

REPLY: I'm not a celiac but here's a suggestion. You should look at these 2 sites. Then, you must consult your physician immediately!! You can try the gluten free diet anyway w/o harm to your or your child but the Dr. should take some tests, pronto. As to celiacs being a Cause of autism, hadn't heard of it connecting that way but that the new type autism has produced multi-bowel intolerances, similar to celiacs in that they can't eat wheat or other gluten grain products, oats, barley & rye. Most of these kids can't eat dairy products and some celiacs can't either. If you are a celiac, then the removal of the above mentioned grains will possibly give immediate relief...but you Still Must see the Dr. Your child could inherit celiacs gene...or something...perhaps just bowel intolerances to certain foods, not sure what the inheriting factors are. If you use a general search for celiacs, you'll find many pages, including support grups. I chose one with info for you on cleiacs. It's very long so passing the site only, And the gfcf diet page, not the board, the info pages from the front page. There's one titled 'why the gfcf diet?', especially. But PLEASE, get your Dr's help now!!Grandma Peg
