I had OATS surgery on a large OCD 2 years ago. It feels great although my real running days are over. I would say that your OCD is probably too large for successful drilling. Mine was 18mm and they never even attempted drilling. I would definitley get a 2nd opinion from an orthopedic ankle specialist. I'm sure you can find a good one in the Denver area. I had my surgery in Boise, ID with an OS who specializes in foot and ankle problems. You want a surgeon whose done many of these procedures. I can't give you great news about the running. Everyone recovers differently, but when you've got an injury like this you end up being happy you can walk, jog, hike pain-free. Marathons might be too much to expect ....
