Before having a fusion, you ought to investigate Artificial Disc Replacement. I had a 2 level Cervical ADR in 2009 and my only regret is that I didn't have it earlier as I had been bothered by headaches for 3 years prior. Because the neck has less stress than the back, the outcome is generally succcessful. I had my surgery in Germany, but ADR is finally catching on in the USA and more spine specialists are being trained in the procedure and hopefully insurance won't be an issue.
