Not sure what is going on...

I began to notice that part of my finger nail had begun to turn a shade of green. Where I have acrylics, I thought it was water below the acrylics. However, I had the nails changed today, and she showed me that the green was in fact under my real nail. She suggested soaking the finger in white vinegar three times a week. After looking around online, it appears that the vinegar is used to treat nail fungus. The nail appears to be detached from the nail bed where the discoloration is, so I am unsure if I should try the vinegar, or make an appointment with my doctor. It doesn't hurt or anything, but I was just curious if anyone has had this problem and if so, does the vinegar work?
