Dear Safeplace,

How are you doing today?

I grew up with plenty of iodized salt and appropriate foods. My body does not convert foods into the thyroid component that I need, which may be true of many with dysfunctional thyroids, so a change in diet doesn't work for us.

If T4 alone is not enough, you can ask your doctor for a trial of T3 (Cytomel). I daily take T3 with the regular T4. Whatever you do, take the thyroid by itself at least an hour and a half before eating other foods that can interfere with absorption.
