    silent gerd

well here goes to make a long story short. For the past 1-1/2 years, I've had a lump in my throat feeling. Drs. have blamed it on everything from menopause to thyroid. Lately my neck feels swollen but appears normal. My ears have been plugged on and off. My thyroid is slightly enlarged and bloodwork is within normal ranges. Went to an ent today to try and figure whats what. She did a scope through my nose down. She then told me everything looked red and swollen. Gave me a prescription for nexium for 6 months and sent me on my way. I do get occasional heartburn and do love my coffee. any inputs???????? Can gerd cause these symptoms?????????

Silent gerd is more dangerous. I've had classic hearturn maybe 5 times in my life and I'm 57. Last August I got heartburn again after 2 yrs and this time it did not go away like before, in fact I just got rid of it some in the last 2 weeks. Sept 2003 the endoscopy showed esophagitis, this Sept I have mild barrett's esophagitis and it was the only heartburn episode I had in 2 yrs. Come to find out I'm a silent refluxer, altho now I'm a real classic symptomatic gerd patient. All these years I've been treated for asthma when in reality it was acid reflux now turn gerd. I was always told that the lump in the throat, constantly trying to clear it, breathing problems were from asthma. Since 92 I've gone misdiagnosed til I had this last endoscopy. Take the pills or keep trying to find one that works, it took me from Sept to Mar to find one for me, worked to rid me of the heartburn but I did end up with a throat infection from both nex and prilosec, I'm now on protonix to maintain hopefully it will keep doing so.
