Lightbulb Chronic GERD Relief - Finally!

I have been diagnosed with GERD.
It got to the point where I could not sleep due to chest pain and severe cramping in my lower abdomen. The pain was from the heartburn and from my digestion problems, which at the time, I did not know I had. Despite several drugs from my specialist, none completely got rid of the pain in my chest, which (now I beleive) may or may not have been heartburn. Many times I would wake in such terrible pain I would wake right into a panic attack, thinking whatever was wrong with me was killing me. My upper GI showed well, and the doctor could not find anything else wrong with me.
I learned that when you take a proton pump inhibitor (such as aciphex, protonix, etc.) it may reduce your ability to digest your food properly due to less acid in your stomache. Then, you may experience lower abdominal pain as I did.

In addition to taking aciphex, elevating my bed with a wedge, and not eating the foods/drinks on my GERD list, and not eating 4 hours before bed, I have noticed some things that help a great deal (as those other things alone were not working).

I had started seeing an accupuncturist who is also an herbalist and nutritionist. She has given me several suppliments that I beleive helped a great deal. She also suggested (as did several doctors) that my pain was caused by stress. She teated me with accupuncture for stress and provided me with the following suppliments from a company called Tyler:

Permeability Factors - to repair the damaged lining
Magnesium Glycinate Plus - for cramping
Similase - a plant enzyme to aid in digestion

I was also taking Jarro-Dophilus which is a probiotic (as found in active yogurt cultures).
In addition to these supliments, and my daily dose of aciphex, I began to meditate for 20 minutes a day.

I am now pain free, and able to sleep through the night without waking in pain or panic attacks. Previously, I had noticed taking valium had completely (but temporarily) cured my pain. I quickly realized that if I could be pain free with valium, I could be pain free if I could control my stress. Since I did not wish to become addicted or dependent upon valium, I learned to meditate.

Long story short, not only did my lower ab pain go away completely, but my heartburn is also completely gone.

Sometimes western medicine can only take you so far. When you become desperate enough, you seek other alternatives. I now beleive those other alternatives to be more powerful than any drugs.

Do you have any plans to try and get off the aciphex now too? Im glad this working for you! If you have read the post I put on here, you know that I too feel very strongly that prilosec has severely impaired my digestive system. What kind of lower abdominal symptoms were you getting??? I have terrible burning pain. I am now taking digestive enzymes along with a strong probiotic and it helps some. I just need to get off that stupid prilosec!!
