Gerd: pregnancy induced, not relieving itself post partum Help!!

Hello. I'm new to learning about Gerd.

My symptoms began during my 3rd trimester of pregnancy. My daughter was born 2 months ago.

However the symptoms are not relieving themselves. I've had an u/s and CT scan to try and determine what's ultimately wrong, but my MD says it's GERD.

Have any of you had this issue? Will it go away? Can I take any medications while I'm nursing my baby?

I'm simply feeling so crappy and want this to end. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

I'd ask to go see a GI Specialist or is that the MD you have been seeing? Sorry I don't know the answers to your questions.

Re: Gerd: pregnancy induced, not relieving itself post partum Help!!

Hey there - I developed GERD during pregnancy too. I thought the GERD was all over after my daughter was born in December ... but it came back with a vengeance about ten weeks after delivery. I'm nursing and taking Protonix (after checking with the pediatrician who said it was OK). Going to see an ENT this week to try to get to the bottom of it. Hang in there. I am really hoping my body is just readjusting and the GERD will gradually go away.

I am in the same situation as you. I NEVER had any problems until pregnacy and was fine after until about 4 months later. I am also nursing and I am taking prilosec. My ENT said that is the only one safe for nursing. Hope this helps!

Re: Gerd: pregnancy induced, not relieving itself post partum Help!!

Just a quick update. I went to see the ENT and he felt symptoms were consistent with GERD. He switched my medication (from Protonix to Nexium) and basically said try another month and if it's not better we'll do some tests. He also said this is not at all uncommon post pregnancy.

To the others who have posted on this thread, I'd be curious to know what your symptoms are now and if they are at all different from when you were pregnant.

My current symptoms are a constant "lump in throat" feeling (kind of like something is pressing down on my adam's apple) and what feels like gas pressure in my chest and upper back. I don't have any heartburn. Sometimes it feels like dry food gets stuck in the back of my throat but I can't say I have any difficulty swallowing.

While I was pregnant I had the pressure feeling and lots and lots of heartburn but not the lump in my throat.
