    Lily & FG,
There are all sorts of minerals in many forms available and I have probably used them all-- as with all minerals -- some forms are more bioavailable than others.

The best mineral absorption that I have ever found and use are Chelated Minerals that are bonded to a protein amino acid-- glycinate or lysine. I use Solgar and Carlson brands that use an Albion Labs internationally patented process. This type of chelated magnesium is readily available for absorption-- because the protein particles are readily absorbable with just a glass of water.

Every cell in your body contains magnesium and 67% of your magnesium is in your bones. It is estimated that 75% of people lack magnesium-- even though it is available in many foods.
As you may know magnesium is in many laxitives --- like Milk of Magnesia, Magnesium Citrate and Epson Salts. But, at the level needed as a daily mineral supplement -- it does not cause a laxitive affect --- 400mgm daily taken in divided doses.

Another excellent product to use for muscle cramps and spasms that works in 30 minutes or so for immediate distress is a Homeopathic remedy -- Magnasia Phos 6X-- taken as needed with no side-effects. You can buy this remedy at health food stores-- here in the US.

    I wish you both well---Harry

    What an informative post, Harry!

I will share this with my girlfriend, who suffers from frequent cramps. We knew that certain vitamin/mineral deficiencies cause them, but were'nt sure which ones. My husband gets cramps in his legs often. His are extremely painful. He also has diabetic neuropathy in his back & legs, but I think the cramps are unrelated. The information you supplied might help him also. If I can get him to take the supplements, that is. He only takes iron on top of his rx meds, because the doctor had asked him to.

    Many thanks,
    Flowergirl

I have been having upper back pains for about a week now. More on the right side. I also have stomach pains just below the rib cage and on the right side but at times right in the middle. Doctor thought it might be my gall bladder and so did I. went for an ultrasound today and my gall bladder was fine. I have had acid reflux for years but the Nexium works very well. Probably have to go for a scope now. Really wondering what this is.

Lillydilly, I hope you see this since your orginal post was a couple weeks ago, I had the exact same problem occur a couple years ago, it would come on so suddenly the attacks(thats what I called them) would leave me scared to death with my heart racing, it would just as you said go up the neck like lighting into the chest area & I felt like I could not breathe, I had to pull over in the car & was transported to a hospital they honestly thought I was having a heart attack, I simply could not breathe, to cut a long story short, cardiac work out came back ok, but this continued to happen I rushed into my doctors office(I was working down the street @ the time) cause I could not breathe, felt weak & so forth, weird feeling, they did a breathing test, which I failed, seems reflux/gerd is highly linked to asmtha, that is when I started to get treated for reflux, was found because of the breathing problems, all the doctors agreed that the reflux had to be controlled or it would aggravate the breathing. Don't know if that is the case with you, but I kept letting it go till I simply thought I was going to pass out one day, that was enough for me. after it got out of control took them along time to control it. so if it continues with you make sure you get it seen to, good luck,Sammy

Thanks Sammy for the reply. I only got your reply now because I've been away. Had to fly to another part of the state to see a heart specialist, as the Dr. wanted to rule that out. THankfully my heart all checked out just fine, so now I can concentrate on getting the reflux under control. I found that the drugs for reflux (tried 3 different types over the 3 months that I've had this) actually made the heartburn worse. The Doctor told me to keep taking it, but I ended up feeling like I'd breathed in pure ammonia by the gallon. This stopped when I stopped the drugs! It was because the drugs weren't working that the Dr. began to think it was heart problems.
ANyway, I found a website that recommends 1 teaspoon pure ginger juice first thing in the morning 3 hours before food (I actually take it through the night when I wake up about 3 am), for 3 weeks.
At first I was very sceptical but was desparate enough to try anything. Within 3 days, the acid feeling was improved, and within a week I was eating again, and I can honestly say that now, 4 weeks later, I am a new person.
I also feel a lot of my problem was caused by tension in and around my upper back. I'm working on that now too, to try to get to the root cause. I believe the ginger thing just helps with the symptoms. It's not a cure but it certainly gave me amazing relief.
    Kind regards Lily

Re: Anyone get upper back spasms , aka esophagus pain

lillydilly, I am glad you found something to give you some relief, I have not been eating much in the evenings, been eating larger meal around early afternoon. So far I have not been bothered as much in the evenings or nights. don't know how long I will keep that up with the family still eating later dinners. I have other problems with my back & chest/rib area I get very inflammed & I know when it is bad it contributes to the reflux problem. One thing effects the other, I will keep the ginger juice in mind, nice to hear of someone getting relief, & thank goodness no cardiac problems are there. Good luck Sammy
