Does this sound like Gerd or similar?

    My symptoms are:

Pain in chest/left breast , sometime going to the right also. Sharp pain not an ache or burning.

Pain also goes right through to my back.

Sometimes a feeling of my chest being full of gas.

Pain in shoulders and up into neck. The neck pains are like tight pinches up the side of my neck.

I know it is not my heart as that has all checked out fine. I am a very anxious person,w hich does not help, especially as I suffer from health anxiety! This last flare up did start on a stressful day, but it has been two weeks now.

Is it Gerd / anxiety / or something else?

Sorry no one answered you. I hate that but sure people are busy this time of the year! Another thing is that GERD has so many, many different symptoms and one person may experience something that the next doesn't. It's very frustrating and confusing! But, with your symptoms and the fact that you've had your heart checked out, I'd say yes. I have read where some have the feelings that you have. Personally, I don't have chest pain (often) but I have had it and been diagnosed with GERD and LPR for last 10 yrs. Be sure and get checked out and let us know. There's many nice people here to help you.

I get pains that go from my chest up my neck and into my ear. I have had this symptom for 16 years very painful and scary makes you think your having a heart attack. I had it last night and it still scares me.

    Busy time of year....

Exactly what Charla said..... and I'm learning it's different for a lot of folks.

I've been back-n-forth on the doctor visit train for 6 months. Mine started as chest pains and probably 'prompted by stress'. I'm not a stressed person in the sense that I worry..... I'm a very busy, on the go, hyper kinda person. So - I guess you could call that *anxious*. They blamed it on that originally and I just KNEW something else was wrong. I've been to regular doctor, pulmonary specialist, and now gastroenterologists. I'm currently under medication for Asthma (pulmonary prescribed) and acid reflux and I'm still not totally sure what's going on.... assuming it's acid reflux.

Don't try to remedy this yourself - atleast, not without seeing a doctor first.

Don't let them convince you its one thing or another unless you begin to feel better. Don't be afraid to keep going back to the doctor and get yourself some answers and relief..... You'll be much happier with a diagnoses (of whatever it is) or atleast a turn in the right direction towards a diagnosis so you can begin making lifestyle changes (if needed pending diagnosis) and move on with life.

Are you sure that your breathing problems are NOT caused by the GERD or some other medical conditions? I too was told I have asthma, based on the pulmonary function tests results. The type of the shortness of breath I have had is very different from any of the types of asthma in existence, including GERD or an exercise induced asthma. I know that GERD is one of the conditions that can cause or contribute to asthma. When I was desperate and searching for answers to my breathing problems, I read a lot about asthma. That is when I became convinced that I don't have it. This makes me wonder how many people with breathing difficulties are misdiagnosed as having asthma and put on asthma meds, which don't work. (I was).

Re: Does this sound like Gerd or similar?

I'd never had asthma in my life and although I know you can develope it later in life......I "still" don't think I have asthma. Or, my symptoms are not like the typical ones that people that "know" they have asthma have. I can't say that any inhalers ever helped me or asthma meds. But, I do get very SOB at times (especially during stress) and I'll have this feeling of drowning in mucus. So bad I have to do sniff salt water up my nose to choke it out or sit in steam. This happens while working outdoors so I assumed it was allergy/asthma but my allergy spec says my test look good now. Also, I can have these spells anytime of the year (as in freezing weather), any place, indoors or out. My pulm ruled out asthma but my PC doc still says carry an inhaler. This is what is one of the most frustrating things to me. I have family Dr., Asthma/Allergy spec, Gastro Spec, Pulmonary Spec, ENT spec, (along with cosmetic dentist that has done work for me due to GERD damage) not counting my shrink and orth ped spec (feel off the roof), and hearing spec. They pass me back and forth sometimes giving me the same meds, sometimes telling me to stop some meds, some saying asthma, chronic bronc, allergies, GERD/LPR. Who knows what. One thing the do agree on is the LPR and I also think that is my problem in turn causing all these other problems.
Some call it silent GERD, some call it NERD, LPR and even another name besides acid reflux? I "KNOW" something is not working right. What or why is my quest. Good luck to all and be sure to share!

    Charla

Re: Does this sound like Gerd or similar?

    Hi thanks for replies.

I have had an endoscopy about 9 months ago and all that found was a very small hiatus hernia.

So I guess if my heart has checked out (those tests were 2 years ago) and the endoscopy is okish, then it must be something else and/or stress.

I am open to it being stress and certainly any immediate feeling of stress makes it worse. However, feeling a little better today and then I ate the smallest amount of pepper whilst cooking dinner and wham it hurt straight away in my chest!

    I don't know......

you have made my day by mentioning the drowning in mucus feeling. That's EXACTLY what I have. Glad to hear someone else has it, too. Has any of your doctors told you why you have this drowning feeling and what it might be?

My same feelings....and perhaps there is something else wrong that I just don't know about yet. You just don't know. You visit the doctors, you tell them what's wrong, they give you tests & meds and you go about your business until the next time you go back if the meds don't work.

Sometimes I think I'm living day-to-day. I try to look at the bright side - I'm THANKFUL fo my current state of health. There are people in this world that are FAR worse off - and they need more help than I do.
For them, I send an ---->
