Yes. It can be acid reflux. You might try researching LPR or laryngopharyngeal reflux. That is the typical term for when acid comes up past the upper esophageal sphincter. There have been quite a few threads on this on the board so you will find good information here. Treatment is often similar to GERD, but it often takes more time for it to heal because the throat isn't as protected from the acid as the esophagus is.
