    Little/no symptoms of silent reflux

I am on antibiotics for an ongoing sinus infection (probably undiagnosed for the past 3 months), and at my ENT appt my doctor said he saw signs of acid reflux on my vocal chords.

I have never had heartburn that I can remember, and any of the other symptoms of silent reflux (clearing of throat, coughing, etc) can be explained by my current sinus infection.

Am having a hard time believing the diagnosis, although I know the ENT is not lying. He is having me take Prilosec to help it clear up, but there is no way I can tell if anything is improving since I don't have any symptoms.

I have already started making some dietary changes and lifestyle changes (limiting fatty and spicy foods, eating about 4 hours before going to bed) just in case, b/c they are not bad ideas in and of themselves. Like another thread mentioned, I did have some soda and pizza two days ago, with limited sauce, and felt no symptoms.

My question is do I go and see a GI specialist now to get a second opinion on this, or do I wait until the sinus infection is gone?

The problems you are having with your sinuses could be related to acid reflux. When my reflux is bad I get blocked sinuses.

I am starting to believe "silent reflux" is code for the doctor not knowing what is wrong with a patient, so he gives a diagnosis that can not be verified.

There is a PH test that can verify if there is any reflux. Even if there is reflux, it is not necessarily the cause of your sympyoms (ie reflux does not have to cause damage).

I was diagnosed with LPR/silent reflux and can eat a large pepperoni pizza without any issues. Doe that make sense?

I definitely have acid reflux. That's just me though.

I rarely had heartburn, but I did have sore throat, regurgitation, coughing after meals, asthma, and a nasty acid taste in my mouth.

You could make an appointment with a GI doctor now, for a few weeks in the future, and then see what happens when the infection clears up.

Re: Little/no symptoms of silent reflux

I had the same diagnosis several years ago with disbelief. My symptom has been a consistent cough. I have never smoked so this cough was very puzzling to me. Whenever I exercise or breathe in very cold air or eat ice cream or very cold drinks. I have had years of many tests and silent refluxe was the only diagnosis . . . but despite taking Protonix twice a day, the cough persists. I am very frustrated!
