Weird spasm like feeling in chest

I am pretty sure I have reflux to some degree as I have alot of the symptoms. I get bloating that makes me constantly burp pressure in abdominal area and chest after eating along with other symptoms. This one symptom im having more trouble with as I don't know what it is. It feels like a quick spasm in the middle of your chest right between the middle of your rib cage and it will usually happen on an inhale. I notice that I will get those frequently if I eat spicy food or a big meal or something im just wondering if you guys have had this weird jump in chest sensation? It feels like something is spasming in my espophagus and it used to make me believe it was heart related which was scary but then I noticed they didnt happen unless I ate something I shoulnt have. Im currently unmedicated for gerd, no tums or anything like that.

Re: Weird spasm like feeling in chest

Hi HypoToby,

Have you had an upper endoscopy or esophageal manometry test? Are you taking any PPI's?

An esophageal manometry test can help diagnose if you have esophagus hypomotility. Which mean that your esophagus motility is high, it contracts a lot. I had that test and they say that my sphincter doesn't close and that my esophagael motility is weak, which I can't believe since I had never had any trouble swallowing before that test and after the test I've felt bad, now I have anxiety when I swallow.

You should read about hypomotility and nutcracker esophagus. I hope that you feel better and that you don't have any of those problem. Do you suffer from anxiety?

You should get your problem checked out. Good luck.

Re: Weird spasm like feeling in chest

Thanks alot for your input, these spasms still happen ocassionally, just not as often. I will look into this further and report any updates. I do have a small amount of anxiety occasionally, but that is caused by said chest problems more than likely. I think there might be something seriously wrong with my esophagus at this point because upon exhalation I feel my esophagus pressured when I breath sometimes.

Re: Weird spasm like feeling in chest

Hi,
I get similar symptoms myself at times. I have been diagnosed with Gerd and a Hiatal-Hernia.
Both conditions can cause the sort of symptom you describe and I think you need an Endoscopy to see what your exact problem is and then get the correct medication. Bloating and burping can also be related to H.Pylori as I had those symptoms with H.P. You would be checked for that during an Endoscopy.
Hope this helps and good luck,

Solofelix.
