gastritis vs. chronic gastritis?

I had endoscopy about a week ago. The Dr. doing the scoping said I had no visual signs of gastritis. When the biopsy result came in, it showed "chronic gastritis" of the stomach sample.

If there is no visual sign of gastritis, does that mean that my stomach is recently in OK condition? In other words, does the "chronic gastritis" represent something deeper inside the cells of the stomach, like damage that was done in the past and is healing?
