Re: Ulcer and esophagus healed but still have globus (lump in throat)

I experienced a progression very similar to yours. It started with the feeling of something stuck in my throat, and a few weeks later I would feel pressure building in my chest. After pounding on my chest with my fist, I would belch and then the build-up would start again. I was put on Prilosec and then Nexium, but after a month of each drug, swallowing was painful. I finally had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with Grade A esophagitis.

After a month on Dexilant 60mg, I no longer have to force out burps and the painful swallowing is gone, but I still have the sensation of something being in my throat when dry swallowing. It isn't unbearable, but gosh is it annoying! Let us know if it goes away eventually. At this point I'm just waiting it out. My doctor says it's the upper esophageal sphincter clamping shut and that eventually it will relax. I've been dealing with this since February. If it is still happening in August, I think I'm going to beg for either a muscle relaxant or a cricopharyngeal myotomy at my 3 month follow-up with my doctor.

Just wondering KitKat880 how are you doing? I too have the constant globus and sore throat feeling. Did your symptoms resolve on their own? Or did you continue on the PPI?

Glad that you are making progress Zialov. After my two month post PPI rebound episode I found that the lump in the throat was the last symptom to go, and even now I still get minor recurrences as I try to reintroduce previously restricted foods. These episodes can usually be dealt with by (briefly) chewing gum, say for ten minutes or so. Any longer than that and I get other problems. I'm still on Ranitidine, though cutting the dose down, currently on half of the prescribed dose which brought the rebound to an end. Good luck with pulling out of the PPI's.

I was wondering what kind of symptoms you were having with the ulcer and the esphagus problems. I have Gerd/acid reflux and IBS. I have flare ups all the time. Especially because I also have severe anxiety, and if I eat wrong. I have had rumbling & pain in my upper stomach, under my left breast , nausea, anc constipation. Its awful.. I have had numerous tests, and was told its the nature of the beast. And also I may have costochondritis(inflamation of the chest wall).. and Gerd attached with it.. it feels like its more than that.. have never had it like this before.
