Trouble swallowing saliva, not food

The last 3 months, I often simply get alarmed because I cannot swallow my own saliva. I never have this problem with food or liquid. At times, I could even be awoken at night because I'm not able to swallow my saliva in.

My doc is prescribing tests like FEESST and probably the 24-hour PST but I'm curious if anybody else sees this symptom. Whatever I read about reflux/GERD, I see folks having problems with food/liquid but I don't. I also don't have any heartburn but do burp few times every night and I have to do it in the upright position
