Gastritis & Shortness of Breath

Hi ...
I've always had stomach problems. Over the last 7 years I kind of got used to them and was able to ignore them. At times during yoga practice my stomach would hurt and certain poses would make my breath shallow. I've also been diagnosed with asthma over the last few years.

Just the other day I ended up with awful heartburn, stomach ache, belching (which I rarely do), regurgitating ... went to gastro who gave me nexium. Allergist believes asthma may be related to my stomach issues that I was ignoring.

I also have this bizarre occurrence of becoming extremely empty in my stomach (usually before a meal) and I start sneezing!

I plan on having a endoscope and colonoscopy (had a polyp when I was 29 so having that checked as well). Just seems that when my stomach calms down, so does my shortness of breath.

I'm still going to yoga, working out ... but it's just not the same. Certain poses are so helpful. As is bending over at about 45 degrees.

Wondering if anyone out there with similar symptoms.

Re: Gastritis & Shortness of Breath

Bloating and shortness of breath go hand in hand with me. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia which is probably the cause as my stomach pushes up against the left lung. When you have your endoscopy you may find you have one. If so, there are plenty of tips and tricks on the internet to manage it.

Re: Gastritis & Shortness of Breath

Common for folks that have reflux to have it irritate their lungs and sinus as well. That can act like an allergy as the acid is very irritating. The acid from your stomach can mix with the air in your esophagus and get up into your nose , sinus and even ears. I notice when my reflux is bad my ears ring, when it eases up after a few days they get quiet.

If you are doing yoga then it might force some of the stomach fluids up into the esophagus. I had to stop doing stomach crunches when I work out. Sometimes it's just a little squirt that gets by the esophageal sphincter, that's all it takes , stomach acid is very powerful stuff.
