constant nausea, dry heaves, GERD and anxiety

I have nausea almost every morning for over a year. I had and EGD and abdominal scan. EGD showed GERD and a small hiatal hernia. Abdominal and colonoscopy were normal. Liver function was normal. I am a very anxious person and worry almost constantly about what can be wrong. I take prilosec and zantac. Have used compazine for nausea but it doesn't do much. I have taken prescribed valium (usually 2.5 to 5 mg a day around 4 times a week) but I get anxious about becoming addicted. The anxiety is just a vicious cycle. Usually by the evening I am feeling fine and can eat supper. I will take a nature made sleep aid on nights were I find myself overworrying about my health. I don't know what to do to help me relax or relieve the nausea, I never vomit but once in a great while force myself to vomit but it ends up just being dry heaves. Anybody else that can relate to this and what have they done to alleviate the vicious circle of nausea and anxiety.

Re: constant nausea, dry heaves, GERD and anxiety

hi I have similiar problems and have been thru the tests as well. I also take gerd meds but also take valerian root sometimes when I feel it coming on and also chew ginger gum, I find it in drug stores.

I also drink camamille (SP?) tea and that helps relax the tummy. one thing though I have also been recently diagnosed with porphyina which is a blood disorder where the red blood cells don't get enough oxygen or something (going to specialist this week) and symptoms are nausea, belly pain, anxiety.

so don't let your gastro dr. give up on you, that's what I did. after he gave me my gastro med and I was taking it for a few weeks for the gerd I phoned them and told them I was still having the nausea so now what? they ordered more test and found this. Keep at them until they find out why.
