hi, i am having a problem at a loss what it and hoping someone can help. i am prone to getting sick, sore throats etc so was no surprise that i came down with mild flu symptoms ( got the vaccine). after a few days of feeling weak etc felt like i was getting better except that my chest starting hurting me.

i went to the dr as i have a history of when i get sick it goes straight to my chest/throat and i have had difficulty breathing.

my doc gave augmentin as i asked in case it was strep. didnt help, called the next day couldnt breath and gave me prednisone over the phone to get me thru the night. i went back next day and he thought it was asthma triggered by colds and gave me stronger prednsione and said i shoudl get a lung test once i feel better.

prednisone did not help also tried albuterol with inhaler still didnt get relief. finally at night was so desperate we had prilosec figured i would try that and i took that and it helped!

was wondering if this could be gerd? still dont feel so good today chest is still tight. i dont get heartburn and eat generally healthy.

i dont have history of asthma except when i get sick it gets bad and has caused me difficulty breathing in the past. went to ent said did a scope said all looks clear he told me its possible i get infections that dont show as strep and should go on augmentin right away to prevent it from getting inflamed..

any ideas? had this in begining of yr also my throat got so inflamed couldnt breath and ended up in ER..took chest x ray said all was clear..thank you

Re: chest/gerd

Sounds like it might be GERD. This sounds very much like how my GERD first manifested itself. I was having pain while breathing, saw a specialist who diagnosed asthma and gave me an inhaler. Did not help. Then my chest started to hurt almost every night.

Finally figured it was GERD causing my problems -- I was inhaling some of the acid from my esophagus, which caused my pain while breathing. Although greasy foods can cause heartburn, there are also many healthy foods that can also trigger acid reflux attacks, so eating healthy is not really strong protection.
