    Question Reflux, nexium, GERD, pain.

I will try and keep this short.
For a few months now I have had reflux on and off. Dr had me on Somac 40mg a day.As it got worse increased it to twice a day. Then i started having horrible nightmares so we stopped it (apparently it is a side effect), Went ok for a week, and then reflux came back with a punch! Bad chest pain, burning, feel food being swallowed, my anxiety kicked in at this point so I'm thinking heart attack! Talked myself down and went back to dr. Who changed me to Nexium 40mg once a day. Been taking that for 5 days now. It is a little better, it hasn't gone yet. Saw dr. again yesterday and she says it can take several days for it to have full effect. Also yesterday I had sharp stomach pains left side of stomach. Have had diverticulitis in the past, so she gave me augmentin to take over the weekend but only if it worsens. It seems to have gone today. So i wont take it. Wondering if pain was from reflux? Gas? I have had diarrhoea for over a week and have hardly eaten anything since last weekend (6/7 days). My stomach is making very loud frequent gurgling sounds. I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist in early Nov to discuss if i need an endoscopy.
My questions after all that are:
Does nexium take a while to work effectively?
Will this pain eventually go away?
Can GERD and/or nexium cause shortness of breath?
Does it take a while (how long) for the inflammation the reflux has caused to heal?
If i have no crushing pain, pain in arm, shoulder or neck racing heartbeat....my heart is ok?
Could it be an ulcer? or something else?
I know my anxiety is a problem and I can talk myself into a heart attack (thinking i'm having one). I had an ECG in July was normal, had a heart echocardiogram then too and it was normal apart from a valve issue which is separate and not a problem.
I didn't manage to keep it short!
    Thanks.
    Lily

    Re: Reflux, nexium, GERD, pain.

    Hi Lily

I cannot say much about the nexium because i am not on it. I have been suffering from the exact symptoms as you including nausea which is the worse symptom. I have an appt for a full blood panel on November 1st and see my doctor the Nov 7. I bought on line because i heard good reviews about it a product called siberian pine nut oil. I just got it in the mail yesterday and had my first dose this morning so cannot say at this point if it works or not. This issue has been going on for around six weeks and its horrible i cannot eat and am losing weight which is not what i was trying to do.

I hope you find relief soon.

    Re: Reflux, nexium, GERD, pain.

I was prescribed Nexium after having had a stomach ulcer.
I was told it need's to be taken for 6-8 weeks before deciding if it is helping. I took it for 5 weeks and then just on and off.
If you haven't had an Endoscopy then I think it is a good move. In all I have had 4 and H.Pylori was discovered and also a Hiatal-Hernia.
My Ulcer and H.Pylori are now gone so I no longer need Nexium. I have found as an alternative that "Manuka Honey" is good for reflux.

    Ty Solofelix,
6-8 weeks? Well that makes me feel better. I'm panicking after 5 days!
I'm still scared it could be my heart. But everything there looked ok in July and dr says all my symptoms are GERD symptoms. And if I've done damage then that's going to take time to heal. I get very anxious when I don't feel well and have a habit of going straight to the worse case scenario. I need to get help with that.
I will give nexium 6 to 8 weeks and see if it does it's job. I'll see specialist Bout endoscopy in nov.
    Thank you for replying.

    Did the oil help?
I had full lot of blood tests and everything was normal. I'm losing weight which isn't a bad thing but not how I wanted to lose it.
Ty for replying hope you're feeling better.
