What's working and what's not.....

I was going through some of the old threads and this one drew my attention and I'll say why....we all know different things work for different individuals, but what I did find was that after looking through some of the what's working and the what's not, it could really help a new comer eliminate those alluring brands that do absolutely nothing for ACNE. I'm 90% clear and I thought it was selfish of me to start shying away from posting and replying or even loggin on for fear of sinking into that depressing state I find myself in when I review these boards. However, I'm lucky enough to be on my way to full recovery and what kind of person turns their back on people (whom we've never met) who take the time out to help, give their insights and be supportive. So le's see what we can get started, let me be the first:

What's working:
Doxy (I take my last pill in 2 days)
BP Wash(Prescribed by my derm but I only use 3-4 days out of the week)
Retin-A (I use only 3-4 nights out of the week)
Origins Out of trouble mask (once a week)
Origins Starting Over AHA's (for even skin tone,clear dark spots)
Origins Balanced Diet (gread lightweight moisturizer)
BP Gel (for spot treatment)
Witch Hazel (Every morning)
Clinique 7-day scrub (Once or twice a week)
Water, Water and more water

What hasn't worked:
Proactiv
Clearasil anti-bacterial foam wash
Queen Helen's Mint Julep Mask
Clinique Soap (bar)
Climadyin (or however you spell it)

I'm just going to post what is working for me.

(No particular order)

Doxycycline (sp?)
Cetaphil
Water
Some what of a healthy diet (not alot of junk food mainly)
Washing my face only when im in the shower and thats all.
And never touching/popping/picking at my face. <~~~ very important.

I'v also started washing my pillow case once a week, gonna see what happens with that.

what Didn't work:
-Steivamycin (made my chin a huge gross mess when it wasn't to start with)
-Ortho TriCycline .. (my acne wasn't that bad when i was on this, but it didn't help any)
-Tersaseptic anitbacterial wash
- really strong prescription BP (the two of these together i used for a couple years, but i didn't even need to use them because i was freakin over a couple mild zits.. so i screwed up my skin with these, cuz it ended up causing zits)
- Dalacin T (it seemed to work for forehead comedones for a while, that's what i got it prescribed for.. then it stopped working)
-Clindoxyl Gel (worked okay.. i dont think i realized it was working and i stopped using it and got a bunch of clogged pores)

well i didn't have bad skin to begin with really.. i stressed myself to the extreme causing myself to get clogged pores and then i kept doing this until there were tons and they slowly started getting inflammed.. so i decided to use Stievamycin which just screwed up my chin insanely and caused me to get a couple above my lip... so now i've got lots of red marks, a few deceasing zits and still clogged pores

What's i'm doing right now:
-Diane 35
-Spiro
-Prednisone (for 10 days to clear out the big suckers on my chin from the stupid stievamycin)
-Cetaphil gentle cleanser 2x a day
- some Glycolic acid cleanser that my derm gave me at night after cetaphil .. (seems pretty good?)

How is Diane working for you?? it was horrible on my skin

... I used it only for four months though until I got tired of Cystic Acne... Hope it's working for you!

I'm thinking about adding Aloe Gel to my regime, but gosh does it feel like I already do too much, when would I apply it after retin-A but before my spot treatment. What's a girl to do?? I have below moderate acne and by doing all of this everday (I'm the first to post) am I setting myself to have severe acne?

Basically everything that is in the store...didn't work for me.

differin gel
not letting anything touch my face
changing my pillow case frequently
going to bed with clean hair

I have seen some impressive results by using Quinoderm (10% BP) for a couple of weeks.

What's working:
Diane-35
Retin-A
Minocin
Dove soap
Loads of water
Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer (sensitive skin)

What didn't:
(ha ha ... where to start!?)
Clearasil & basically any acne stuff in the drugstore
Alesse (Oh gosh, gives me shivers thinking about it!)
Proactive (Ugh!)
Asprin mask (not good for sensitive skin)
High does of various vitamins
Tea Tree (makes my skin worse)
Expensive department store "acne" lines (prescriptives,etc)

Just to say, I now have mild acne ... it's not gone, but something's finally working! Thank you to everyone for posting loads of info along the way!
