why is triaz available only by prescription??

Ok so I just went to the pharmacy to pick up triaz cleanser 3%, and $85 later.... If its just benzoyl peroxide, why is it a prescription?? Just so they can charge a rediculous amount? I hope not, other wise I'll by something over the counter w/ bp in it. Also does anybody have any experience w/ it? Thanks!!

hey...i'm not entirely sure why either..but my guess is that it's just about money-making. i say this because a dermatologist gave me samples of the triaz face wash, but told me that i could buy a very similar product over the counter for ALOT cheaper (this was after i informed her that financially i needed the generic brands)..therefore i'm concluding it's all about the money and you could do just as well buying the clean and clear benzoyl peroxide wash.

Although I tend to agree with the idea that it is all about money it could have something to do with the concentration of the medication and maybe some manufacturing process which improves the quality of Triaz pads? More likely it is about the money, idk i guess you could call them....

I don't think you can put out an OTC product with such a high concentration of BP. Regulation is all it comes down to.

The triaz cleanser I'm using is 3%. It also comes in 6 and 9% I believe. The OTC limit is 10% as is in oxy fashwash and some others.

it is the only product that contains a formulation of BP and Glycolic Acid. I have not seen that mix in OTC stuff.

Please stay away from Triaz. I had a severe allergic reaction that almost killed me. It is apparently 10-15 times stronger than Stridex.

I used the triaz 3% prescribed by my dermatologist and it did nothing !! I have better luck with the Purpose Bar. Even though my insurance covered a portion of the Triaz, it was still really expensive.

I believe it is only available by prescription because it is very dangerous. I touched my sons pads and wound up in the hospital. Please be careful using them. I think they are much too toxic to even be on the market.
