| What triggers your acne?
Before you tell us about what triggers your acne, please place your right hand on your heart, and swear to the following oath:
"I ____(your name)____ do solemnly swear that I will never utter a harsh or emotional word about what causes acne, for we all know the ultimate root cause of acne is the natural behavior of skin and hormones as commanded by genetics and Nature. Acne just is.
I will, however, talk about what triggers my acne, so that I and others can learn through the spirit of our collective experiences and together seek enlightenment. In our steps to recovery we can also discover which acne-triggers we can avoid in life, through our own will and through the grace of a higher being."
Good. Now lets hear about your acne-triggers.
First up, my triggers are stress and sweets. Guaranteed breakout.

There are many myths or common misconceptions about what causes acne. Among these are poor hygiene or a bad diet of chocolates and sweets. Neither dirt nor diet actually causes acne.
In general, it is no longer felt that dietary products have any influence on acne. Chocolate, caffeine or fats are not statistically related to causing acne based on overall studies. There may be some individual differences in that certain foods do flare up acne lesions and if you determine that you are sensitive to something, discontinuing that food is the recommended.
Eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water along with getting regular exercise will improve how you feel and your skin looks, but acne is a result of overly excited sebaceous glands.

I'll put you down for "excited sebaceous glands" as your trigger. I'll make sure I avoid those.

.
(Hmmm. Long time no postings. I'm worried that folks don't remember what exactly they did to trigger their acne breakouts....)

Fried anything, canned anything, bottled anything, chocolate anything, sugar anything, white flour anything, boxed anything, food colored anything sweetened anything, beer in fact, and overly productive oil glands.

stress, hormones and me picking! My diet has never made me have more or less acne, not even more water consumption. I do have extremely oily skin btw. A curse and blessing wrapped into one.

stress and hormones seem to be the top two triggers so far, in this informal poll. I can avoid stress through behavior changes, but can I avoid hormones?

LOL, of course not. You can't avoid hormones as they are essential for our daily existence, but you can try to control or balance your hormone levels through diet as some members, such as yourself and I, already know. =)

I've found that touching my face AT ALL tends to lead to breakouts. For instance, if I'm tired in school and attempt to keep my head up by leaning my head against my hand, that part of my face tends to breakout within a few weeks... (And yes, I do keep track of EVERYWHERE I touch my face, but it's usually a general area) Also, shaving excessively or too hard tends to do the trick.
I seriously suggest anyone whom touches their face EVEN ONCE A DAY, or shaves to keep track the general areas in which they do. And tell me if they think that it contributes to it. I get acne by my side burns (Where I lean my head on my hand) and around my chin(where I shave). You'd be STUNNED at the things that get on your hands at school, or anywhere else... I know it sounds nasty, but most of us have urine on our hands most of the day. Imagine touching your face with those hands now.. (*yuck*) Also, if you go out alot, there's generally alot of *cough*semen*cough* in public places. So, don't touch your face AT ALL! My face has actually been clearing up since I've stopped touching it.

Shadowlink, urine is highly beneficial to acne, so if you have a lot of it on your hands then I say keep on touching your face!
