I hope this is your Acne cure-Helping someone out there would be AWESOME!

    Hi All,
This may get long, but could be worth reading. Iíve suffered with acne for about 20 years, and tried everything to cure it, accutane 4-5 times, oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, retinol, multiple topicals, perscribed by my dermatologist, anyway I won't go through the whole list, but believe me when I say it's long. I finally came across something that has worked, it's only been 4 months but I'm hoping the clear skin continues. The main regimen I got from a book I read, the rest is from other resources. Here goes.
Step 1. Clean and sanitize your skin with salicylic acid, I use Stridex pads .5% with Aloe, the book calls for a 2% concentration, make sure the product you choose does not include any other active ingredients. Wait about 5 min and rinse off.
Step 2.Remove the clog with Glycolic acid 10% - I use Glycolic Gel- Cellular Micro Exfoliation by Dr. Cohen's -Total Skin Care- It's the most expensive part of the plan but sooo worth it. You may find another product cheaper, I pd about $23.00 a bottle. Glycolic acid dissolves plugs beneath the skins surface and reduces inflammation, this product is the keyÖ.Leave on for about 10 min the first couple of weeks, then rinse off, after 2wks it can be left on as long as desired, time permitting. Be careful with highly irritated skin, you should avoid application to those areas. Brown spots are fine-This will help fade them.
Step 3.Run and ice cube over the areas you are treating to cool skin, be careful not to freeze your skin, this reduces inflammation, and opens your pores, gets it ready for the next step.
    4. Apply benzoly peroxide product, I use BP Power pads 2.5%- remember no other active ingredient. Nothing higher than 2.5%. Leave on.-BP kills bacteria.
    5. Apply a cool face pack for 10 min- to reduce inflammation.
    6. During the day you may apply an oil-free moisturizer.
This 6-step program can be done in the morning & evening. If itís too much just do it once a day. I did it 2x. It took about 2 months, for everything to completely clear up- but after about 2 weeks on the program, I noticed things were beginning to clear, almost the same as with accutane, without the side effects. The book stated most people clear up in 6 wks- some are completely cured. If the acne comes back just go back to the program. I continue to do it a few times a wk- my own fear of the acne coming back.
Other tips- I eat 2-3 apples in the morning before anything else, make sure you wait at least a 1/2 hour before eating anything else. Fruit digests fast, and will ferment if eaten with other foods, apples will help move things along and cleanse the digestive track.
tip 2- drink lots of water- with a lemon wedge if you have it.
Eat lots of vegs- I usually eat a large salad for lunch with grilled chicken or tuna. Dinner Meat or fish with veg's only.
I keep my pasta and bread intake to a bare minimum.
Well I think thatís enough info to digest! I just can't understand why my Dr. never mentioned Glycolic acid Gel- I believe it has been the missing link. It sounds harsh but 10% Glycolic acid did not irritate my skin, and my skin is sensitive.
Good Luck, Please let me know if it helps anyone else out there, helping even one person would be such a blessing.

what kind of acne did you have? did you have cystic acne? How long were you like in remission for b/w your accutane courses and did the accutane get any better after you took the accutane or was it as bad the fourth time as it was the first? Some people have only moderate or mild acne but it is persistent so they go on accutane...were you one of those people?

you mentioned that you do this about three times/week. What is your regimen for the rest of the days? What kind of makeup do you use?

Sorry about all the questions, but I am in search of my ideal regimen right now and am thinkng of doing this about 3x a week if you are clear and that is how many times you do it. Just to let you know, I am currently perfectly clear b/c I took accutane. That was about 9-10 months ago and I really don't want anything to get bad so I am trying to work out a really good skin care regime to prevent anything from happening. Do you think this would be a good regime for me? maybe on the days I dont use SA and GA and BP I could use tretinoin (retin-a) at night.

    thanks!

there are just a couple of things I did want to address from your post tho. You stated that if you run the ice cube over your face it opens up your pores...I thought cold things closed your pores and warm things opened them..hence why the facialist steams your face before she extracts and why people wash with warm water to open pores and then with cold to close them.

Another thing that you said was that apples keep you regular...however I had the total opposite effect. I was obessessed with apples (for no particular reason except the taste) for a short period in my life and would eat at least 2-3 apples/day...this made me constipated...when I went to see the doctor about my bloating and constipation, at the end of the appointment she told me that the fact that i ate so many apples was the culprit and that when kids have diarreah that they tell the parents to give their kids apple sauce. She told me to eat pineapple and prunes to help get me regular again.

I just want people to make sure to check up on this before they start running out and doing it...I know I was afraid to eat apples for a long time!!! LOL

Hi CuriousP- No Problem with all the questions.
Most of my acne was in the T-Zone but ranged from small whiteheads to small cystic type acne, and a few blackheads, I wouldnít consider it really bad, just VERY stubborn to clear up. After trying many things for about 10 yrs from my dermatologist, he mentioned accutane and at the time I was getting the inside pimples along my hair line, and behind my ears, I was very careful what I washed my hair with daily, nothing w/perfume. I use Dove shampoo, at the moment. The pimples that were underneath the skin seem to take forever to clear up and if one went away another one would show up. When I went on accutane, I only did a 2-3 month regimen taking 40 mg 1x a day. Iím 5Ē9Ē and weigh about 130lbs. I was usually clear for about 8-10 mos which was awesome but slowly my acne would come back, at first just a few here and there, then about 6-8 mos later I would start with the cystic type around my hairline, forehead or around the mouth area, thatís when I would go see the my dermatologist and we would do a 2-3 mos course of accutane, sorry I lost count, but I would have to say I did about 5 rounds all together in 10 yrs.
Today, on my off days I use Spectro jel for sensitive skin, they use to sell it years ago at CVS, but a Canadian Co purchased them, so I ordered it from Canada off the internet. I would just use something fragrance free, for sensitive skin. What do you use now? Is it working?
Iím not too big on makeup, but I use Bare Minerals concealer, sometimes the bare minerals foundation, a little lipstick and mascara. I think if you try the regimen, you wonít even need the retin-a. I had never use Glycolic gel until I came across this regimen; it has totally changed my skin and life. Sometimes depending on the time of month I may do it 5 or 6 days that wk, just because Iím paranoid. I just hope my clear skin continues. I may get a very small pimple now but itís usually gone in a day or 2, not linger on for 2-3 wks. I havenít gotten a cystic type pimple in 4 mos. Oh, for moisturizer I use Oil of Olay Complete (fragrance free).
As far as the hot/cold thing thatís what I thought hot opens pores and cold well may do the opposite. The theory behind the cold is when you have a pimple the skin is inflamed- it is the bodyís attempt to cure itself, the inflammation causes the skin to swell around the pore, closing it off even more, causing the block. The Glycolic gel unsticks the pore, the ice brings down the inflammation so it opens the pore enough to allow the BP to go down and cure the infection, the skins attempt to warm up the skin from the ice, which sends extra white blood cells to the scene to help the curative process. Like the theory of applying ice to a sprained ankle. When I read this and began doing the regimen it made perfect sense.
As far as the apples, they seem to work for me, but everyone is different when it comes to fruit, some people canít have oranges. I would eat what works for you. Hope this helps Ya!!!
