Cystlike bumps on chin, and jawline, need to get cleared prom in 2 weeks! Please Help

Hi to all, I am an 18 year old male. and I have moderate acne, I am currently on doxycycline 100mg taking twice a day. My forehead is pretty clear, but I have a few cysts (not really big) right cheek and and by the side of my face near my sideburns. I went to the derm last week, and been on doxy for about 1 week now, it has really cleared me in the past, so I believe it will clear me, but hopefully in time enough for my prom in 2 weeks. I had one big cyst injected at the derm with a cortisone shot, and it went down flat like people say they do, but 4 days later it popped back up inflamed again the same one that was injected, I dont know why? but the main problem is all these cyst like bumps on my chin, by my mouth and jawline, some are drying really good, but more keeps poppin up! I need to know what can i use or do to dry them all up, or get them to go away quickly, I won't use benzoyl peroxide nither or retin-a cause I've been using that for the last 5 weeks, and all the bp does is make my skin dry and dark looking, and scaly. and the retin-a causes alot of redness that takes days to go away!!! So please someone help me out, I want to look my best on prom night!!! Thank You All!!!

Try aspirin mask or Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask.

Two Weeks. I think you should think DIET. Because it's not a myth.

This was copied and pasted from someone's post, sorry didn't note whose, but probably part of the thead whose link is pasted below:
'Sugar is inflammatory and when ingested it causes a surge in insulin production (insulin is the hormone that enables the metabolism of sugar). In turn, this increases sebum (oil) production because it is accompanied by the insulin-like growth factor, IGF-1, which encourage the production of male hormones. And the more oil you have, the more likely it is your pores will become clogged with acne-causing bacteria. '

If I were you I'd go on an extreme low-carb diet. Extreme as in cutting out ALL sugars and simple carbs. No sweets, sodas, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes etc. Not extreme as in that Atkins thing where you don't eat vegetables at all for weeks.

Eat good proteins like salmon and chicken and green vegetables like broccoli and spinach. ( Dr. Perricones 3-day facelift diet involves eating salmon twice a day. You can find that on his website)

Many people have been doing a colon cleanse with good results. See

But after reading through all the posts, (one thread is over 70 pages long), I have come to the conclusion that it is actually the fiber involved in the cleanse that is doing the most good. Especially long term. One poster that specifically said so posted a link to a study that had diabetics taking psyllium husk capsules 30 minutes before meals significantly reducing glucose elevations. So try adding psyllium husk capsules or metamucil. See

I don't think you want to do the cleanse now as it could involve an initial breakout.

Also, add probiotics either in yogurt with active cultures or in capsule form. You probably have a candida imbalance from the antibiotics. You can do a 'cleanse' for that as well, but it's basically a strict low sugar diet and probiotics which you are already doing. Plus a few anti-fungal herbal things like garlic.

And you could try adding anti-androgen supplements. These are things that are helpful for normalizing insulin and androgens--reducing the effects of testosterone. They include chromium, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, copper, and vitamin B6, to name a few. And herbal supplements like Saw Palmetto and Nettle. Or just get a 'Men's Prostrate Health' supplement. They contain most of these things. I don't know how long it takes for these to take effect though. They might make your skin less oily right off the bat. I've been taking some of these supplements for about a year, and somewhere along the line, my skin got a lot less oily. I don't know when as it took a while to get it through my head that my skin wasn't so oily anymore.

And finally, just in case it helps you, I used to get huge cysts all along my jawline, hairline and temples. That went away when I discovered, from a coworker who got cysts only on her chin, that they were triggered by oranges and orange juice.

Oh, and try the aspirin mask as the other poster said. I don't know what it would really do for cystic acne as I don't get cysts much any more. It is salicylic acid, which clears pores and is a miracle for blackheads and over all acne. But it should also reduce inflamation. I did have some inflamed pimples on my back when I first tried the aspirin mask and it seemed to make them go away faster, but since it was on my back, I couldn't really observe it happening.

Aloe Vera gel is very helpful for reducing inflamation and irritations of all kinds.

Just buy plain, cheap store-brand, uncoated or micro-coated aspirin. Dissolve a small handful in enough water to cover them and apply to your face. If you are just putting it on your face, you can do enough in the palm of your hand. They dissolve in a few seconds.

Now, it will dry to a fine powder that won't stick, will fall all over the place and make you sneeze. Which is why I usually use it as a scrub instead of a mask. But then, I'm applying it to blackheads, not inflamed cysts which you shouldn't scrub. So you could just wash it off before it dries completely. Other people say they mix it with a bit of moisturizer or cleanser to help it stick a little better.

I think that you are honestly having an allergic reaction to the medication. A hypersensitivty reaction is an adverse side effect which means an allergic reaction. Cortisone is used to treat allergy related effects. I would immediately stop the Doxycycline. Naturally, the dermatologist wouldn't want to tell you that because they want their money. If you keep having these allergic reactions then you have to keep going back and being treated hence increasing her/his paycheck. lol. As I said already but can't stress enough is to stop the doxycycline. What I would recommend trying is PROACTIVE solution. If you want more information about proactive there are tons of website links, I am not sure if I will get banned for giving you a link so i won't even try lol. It's not hard to find, I saw it in Rite aid the other day even. Maintain a healthy diet following some of the steps that the other member mentioned and drink TONS OF WATER. This must be really hard for you emotionally but you should know that a person is worth more than their looks just in case the tips don't work. When you and you're partner are all old and ugly it won't matter anymore what you look like lol. Hang in there! Have a great prom!

I would not use the aspirin like people are telling you. Aspirin is an acid, it is acetylsalicylic ACID which with how sensitive your skin that seems like it would worsen it and give you a rash or dried or scaly look.

Many people with cystic acne have posted that the aspirin mask helped their cysts. And the only irritation I've seen mentioned is that it can be drying. Which means you don't use it too often and you moisturize afterwards.

Also, if you want to try the Proactive products, you should look in your drugstore for the imitatation lines of products. They are cheaper and available locally. You have to order Proactive and don't have the time. I think one is called Klear Action and they have it at Walgreens.
