Post back to the (acne)( drawing board again...

Hello all,

I used to post on this board last year around this time when I was going through my first course of accutane to treat my cystic acne. Unfortunately after 9 cystic acne-free months...its baccckkk...grrr. But anyway, such is life...for those on the board that I don't know...and those souls still here from last year...HI , I hope things are going well, at least relatively, and that hope is still out there.

My current situation is as follows, have cystic acne (mild at the moment) and regular acne which is not doing the best right now. I also have rosacea from the first course of accutane that I am keeping under control with burdock root tea and a diet low in bread, refined sugar and wheat products.

I have a derm appt. on Friday to re-evaluate things and I'm not sure what is going to go down... for those that are new since I've been here last...I have had moderate to severe cystic acne since I was 18 (am almost 21 now). I was on 100mg minocycline and tazorac gel for about a year before it stopped working...tried b5, "old guys plan" and diet for about 4 months without success.. and then I went on a 5 month course of accutane (80mg day)....and 9 months later I'm almost back to square one. Slightly worse off actually because of the rosacea and the migraines I have now from accutane. But anyway, I'm done with my pity party...and I just wanted to re-introduce myself to the board again because I haven't been here in so long... thats all for now...take care

Hey swissmiss, I remember you. I'm sorry you've had a set back. I just wondered if you remember someone named Aesthetician that posted for a while? I took her advice about Biomedic products and micro-peels and my daughter has now been consistently clear for a year. It's been a miracle for us. She used to break out every winter for the last 3 years. Since you've been trying different things I thought you might at least consider the Biomedic approach. She eats a good diet and has given up soda on her own (not for skin reasons) but that's about it. I used to stress about everything she put in her mouth and I'm relieved to be done with that. Good luck.

You know skin is delicate and complicated. Skin is a miraculous organ as it is the conduit used to filter toxins out of your body. People get acne for different reasons. Women usually suffer from acne because a hormone imbalance. That was my problem. During the summer months my skin was perfect and then during the winter months (while my skin was recovering from the summer) my skin would break out. No doubt it was the dead skin cells zapped by the sun during the summer months that were clogging my pores. The darker your skin the less you can visually view imperfections. It was an unhealthy cycle.

In the past I had tried many of things that have been discussed on the message board for ACNE, but none seemed to work. I felt defeated and saddened by my skin problem. Then I discovered microdermabrasion and chemical peels (and of course facials). My skin is beautiful now, but it didn't happen over night. After about a year and a half of either facial/chemical peels and facial/micro combinations, success. I maintain my skin regularly and am always looking to educate my self concerning the complexity of skin. I have recently learned that proper food combining limits that amount of toxins left in a persons body (toxins from regular everyday foods). There is no doubt that one cause of acne is the release of toxins from your body through your skin. Regular exercise promotes good blood circulation which also contributes to healthier skin. Look into it.

legally blonde - you can do a search under biomedic to find offices that sell it. Usually plastic surgeons offices. It's a product line of cleansers, toners, topicals, etc. You can buy them on-line too. Then one a month she has a micro-peel which is salicylic acid based. This is an in-office procedure. It takes about 15 minutes and it dissolves the top layer of skin allowing it to breath and shed impurities. I think she had an exfoliation problem before.
