Post Ibuprofen? HELP

I heard on these boards that if I took ibuprofen, it could reduce the swelling of a cyst or redness. Is this true?

I'm taking motrin IB, 1 pill four times a day, which is 800mg of ibuprofen a day. Is this ammount sufficient?

Please respond, before I overdose on this! haha

i wouldnt worry, one time i had 2 huge zits on my lip, where it looked like i got punched in the lip.. and i took 2 600 mg (prescription) ibuprofen pills.. the swelling went down a considerable amount.. i've learned that our bodies are actually very resilient.

Ice has been recommended for reducing the onset of swelling and inflammation of just-emerging cysts/pustules. However, for already emerged inflamed spots, it doesn't seem to be as effective. Try holding an ice cube over inflamed areas till you can stand it, 10 seconds at a time, up to a minute or so perhaps.

i dont think that ibuprofen works for that, I know because I often take 600 mg or more (dad's a pharmacist so thats what we have) for headaches from my tmj disorder and as I have acne, I dont notice any reduction in swelling. Also, you need to be careful because if you take it in such large amounts and do it alot, it can be hard on your liver. But-I do know that real aspirin ( not ibuprofen) crushed and put topically on pimples is supposed to help with swelling or burning-because it is made from williow bark/trees and has anti irritant properties. WOrks on bug bites too.

Yes when I am going through a bad breakout I take 1 or 2 ibuprofen and it helps tremedously with the redness and swelling mostly. Also hydorcortisone cream works well just don't spread too much all over your face bc it can clog your pores!
