Question Will it ever go away?

Hey all--I've got 2 questions.

I guess I'll start with some history. When I started Grade 7 (about 13-14, I think) I hit pubes and got fairly bad acne. I had it up until grade 9 (14-15) when I finally got on some antibiotics and it cleared my skin perfectly, I had no scars or any more breakouts for about 4 months (best days of my teen life so far) untill one day I ran out and couldn't get ahold of any more for almost a month. (worst mistake I ever made...I still beat myself up for it) Anywhoo, after I got back on the antibiotics (tetracyclin and differin gel) they didnt respond anymore I went on to this stuff called benzac. (Benzoil peroxide 10%) So far it hasnt been working very well...its like im finally clearing up, but then I get more breakouts.

So, I've been on Benzac for about 4-5 months you think it will ever start working or should I move on to something else. My doc wants to put me on Accutane...I'm a litte afraid with all the horror stories...but think, hardly anyone that went on accutane comes back on acne boards, their out enjoying themsevles.

My other question is--does acne ever go away on its own? I mean, do you think once I finish puberty the acne wont come back? Or is acne a permanent thing if your not on any drugs or stuff. (I hit puberty at about 13, I'm now I think I have a little more to go

One other thing, I have mild-moderate acne...If that helps at all. Thanks for the help.

If your a male theres a good chance that your acne can clear up all on its own and be gone after puberty. My brother and my son went through the puberty acne and it only lasted a few years then their face cleared up and the acne never came back again. You would not BELIEVE my son had a really bad cystic acne to see him today.During puberty his face was a complete DISASTER !Today his face has no scars and is perfectly flawless. Also my son never touched or picked his cysts or acne.He just simply ignored it and so did everybody else.

Hey thanks for the info but can someone plz answer my other question? One other thing:

The stuff im using right now (Benziol Peroxide) name Benzac, which I mentioned before, says on the package to start using twice a day as tolerance develops. Do you think I should start doing this for another 3-4 weeks or just forget that and start on accutane or hopefully something else my doc has.

i dont think there's a big difference between once a day and twice a day. you could try other topicals, if you haven't already. if YOU are ready for accutane, try it. but if it's just your doctor who's ready, don't use it. i'm in my 2nd month, and so far, its awesome. you can read my accutane journal if you're interested in my full progress

You said its mild acne, it will probably go away by itself. Accutane does not work for everyone. There are posters who have been on Accutane three times.

what about acne that began after puberty? Will that eventually go away on its own also? I didn't really have acne during my teen years but the day I turned 22 I broke out and have continued to break out a year and a half later. Any thoughts?

Man I am almost 24 and have had acne since 14!!! That was puberty acne. But I have to say that the acne now is different. Its more around the mouth and chin, and less on the cheeks (which was the primary breakout area when I was a teen). So I guess its more "hormonal". Fortunately I never had "scarring" type of acne. Just the kind which leaves spots which eventually go away. I mean I have a few pinhole type scars which everyone but me needs a microscope to see from popping acne when I was a teen. But STILL break out. Am tryig to get off antibiotics and move to B5, which worked for some time but is now going haywire (check out my post).
