Bad Break Out on Top Back of my Head

So I recently got out of the military and had always had my hair short. When I got out I let it grow for a couple months and started to get bumps ect on the top back of my head. So I decided to shave my hair and to my suprise there were pimple like things on the top back of my head, some with white heads some just red. The hurt a little if pressure is applied to them or if i scrub them hard when i use shampoo. I almost always wear a hat so I am not sure if that played any part. I am not sure what it is or what I can possibly do to get rid of this. I am going to schedule a dermatolagist appointment soon I think if they dont start going away. any advice or help would be appreciated.
