Everyone who has not tried zinc, give it a chance

I know this is a topic that has been discussed before, but zinc REALLY does help with frequency/severity of breakouts. My combo is working for me! internally:I take a multivitamin (that has 15 mg of zinc in it), along with 2g Flax seed oil, and 1 extra zinc supplement (30 mg)
externally: Aoqili seaweed soap
It takes a little while to see the effects, but the effects are definite with zinc. I just started on the soap, but I've been on zinc for about 2 months.

How long before you see results? I think I'll start on dandruff shampoo first

I am one of those people that is/was pleasantly surprised if I don't wake up daily with a new pimple. But I started noticing a diiference at around the 3rd week- first major difference, was no big pimples and/or cysts.

Adf23-did you notice that your skin got worse before it got better with the zinc? I heard that sometimes happens with zinc and that's why I've been kind of reluctant to take it.

I've been taking zinc, too, but haven't noticed any significant difference yet. My additional supplement is 60mg. I was a little afraid that that might be too much, so I started only taking it every other day. Does anyone know what a SAFE amount daily is?

Zinc shouldn't make your acne worse before better because all it is is a vitamin and it works by helping your skin to heal better because it improves your immune system. I am not a doctor and I am going to say get a doctors advice on how much zinc to take, but in my opinion depending on the severity of your condition maybe start with NO MORE than 50 mg of zinc per day for the first month and gradually decrease your dose to maybe 30 mg per day. I read somewhere that too much zinc for longer than a month can actually end up decreasing your immune system and make you more susceptible to infections. That's why too much of a good thing isn't good. I also have heard to complement with copper and with my experience if I take zinc on an empty stomach I get nauseous. One last thing is if you are on any oral meds for anything take your vitamins at least a few hours from when you take your meds.

Here's some zinc info:

"Zinc is relatively nontoxic, and acute toxicity of zinc is rare. The dose range for general health support is 15 to 20 milligrams. Dosages of zinc for specific health conditions are 30 to 60 milligrams daily for men and 30 to 45 milligrams daily for women. It is not recommended to take doses of 150 milligrams or higher per day for more than one week. Excessive consumption of zinc can lead to copper-deficiency anemia, reduced HDL-cholesterol levels, and impaired immune function."

Personally i take a multi-vitamin that has 15mg zinc and an additional zinc supplement of 50mg and my face has been clear for almost two weeks now. I think zinc has something to do with it along with other changes i've made..Just don't overdo it like these B5 people out there
[This message has been edited by moderator3 (edited 04-03-2001).]

Yes, I've read multiple sources that you
should *supplement* less than 100mg a day..
I use 85mg a day, but 25mg of it is from
my multi-vitamin, so it is not absorpable..

Anyone who wants to take zinc should read
up well on it first so that their body can
actually absorb some of it..

I know that there are different types of zinc out there. Which is the best for acne?
