HORRIBLE Acne Statistic - - We are UGLY ! ! !

Came across this sad information whiles researching acne on the web.

...."The picture that shows --THE PERCENTAGE OF TEENS WHO WOULD RATHER NOT DATE SOMEONE WITH ACNE-- reflects a grim reality."

BOYS: 12-14: 55%
BOYS: 15-17: 62%
GIRLS: 12-14: 50%
GIRLS: 15-17: 52%

"The pimpled teenagers may have suspected this, but now they have the statistics to back up their suspicions. No wonder it's been a bit tough lately to get a date."

--This disturbing information has been coursing through my mind for days. Please vent and respond.

I am an 17 yr. old male with my birthday coming up on October 13. I'm going to be an official adult with acne. I am a very strong guy who works out every other day. Acne is my 1 weak spot. I cry my self to sleep on many nights and am so depressed, I feel there is no hope and I will grow up to be alone and by myself because of acne. Many girls consider me a very handsome guy, but my self-esteem/confidence is so low that I can never see what they are seeing. I've spent countless hours researching the psychology behind this and how it effects the human mind. I'm currently a student in college, and my introductory psychology class has helped alot. I have so much in life to be happy for, yet this acne makes me so frustrated. I am envious of others with smooth, clear skin. I don't smoke or do drugs like many of my friends and yet they have skin as clear as the sky and I have acne. I curse the reason for this. I take such good care of myself, yet acne makes my life so horrible. I didn't even go to my high school prom b/c of my acne, didn't have confidence to ask out that special girl, didn't want to be at a social event like that where everyone could see my face.

--P.S. - I just found this board and I think its wonderful. I can relate to everything ya'll are saying. Keep up the good work. I've never been able to vent these feelings because my parents just don't understand. Only us acne sufferers understand the psychological pain felt by acne.

That's horrible. Though, you would have thought some of those that voted would have had some form of acne themselves.... as well, MOST teens do.. even if it's just a few blackheads and one cyst, it's still acne.

Did you ever try going to a dermatologist? If not then it might be well worth it. Anyways just imagine that your acne has to go away at some point so try not to let it get you down too much. What type do you have and how severe is it?

GSMan, your post echoes my sentiments and feelings about dealing with acne. I too have so much to be thankful for, but can never ever feel happy because of my acne. I'm almost 24 and am still suffering. I know how people say that having acne makes you a stronger person, but I've reached the point where my will to carry on is fading. I hate waking up in the morning for work and feeling like crap. Sometimes I feel like I disconnect myself from the world just to cope. I work at a professional firm where image is important and I think having acne will affect my career. I've also been told by many that I'm a good looking guy but my self-esteem is so low most of the times. I think of what my life would have been like if I never had this - but can't even imagine what it feels like to be carefree without this huge cloud always hanging over my head. Anyways, I know this sounds pretty depressing, but do others feel the same way?

I too, have a lot of good looking girls tell me that I am good looking. They ask me why am I so shy, but I dont want to say its because of my acne, but I can say some girls look past the acne which is good. Anyways, I go through out my day with my head down.

Hey guys, the stats were bad but to me not that bad. I mean they were about 50 percent, and im assuming that's out of 100. So that's like half. Plus it was 12 to 17, most people start seriously dating at an older age then that and younger kids will learn as they get older that looks are not everything. And who cares anyway bout them stats cuz who would wanna date someone who's that judgemental anyways. Id rather have someone who is nice, funny, caring, non judgemental and understands that looks arn't everything. Alot of people think they are but there not everything. Anyway, good luck to you guys who are still battling acne, i hope it gets better, mines gotten much better latly and it does make you feel better, i still have red marks but there tolerable and actully its weird, today i was thinking that like im not THAT ashamed of them cuz i felt like it shows im strong to go out and deal with life inperfect ya know. LOL anyway im a dork, good luck all, take care!

let me do this another way.

...."The picture that shows --THE PERCENTAGE OF TEENS WHO WOULD'NT MIND DATING SOMEONE WITH ACNE-- reflects a grim reality."

BOYS: 12-14: 45%
BOYS: 15-17: 38%
GIRLS: 12-14: 50%
GIRLS: 15-17: 48%

looks a little different, doesn't it?

Re: HORRIBLE Acne Statistic - - We are UGLY ! ! !

I can relate to everything thats been said on this message...

Im a 15 year old (turning 16 in 3 1/2 months)

I have had Acne since I was about 12.I would not call what I have "severe acne" but I would call it moderate.

Let me first say...that poll is bullcrap.Never, and I mean NEVER get down about something just because of a poll conducted. The real world is alot different then any poll.

I have battled acne for almost 4 years now,and its not fun at all. Ive gone from stages where I was almost acne free to a stage today of where im on a inital breakout on Bactrim in my 4th week and have a horrible looking face.

Im not gonna lie to anyone, our acne sometimes might cause a girl to not like us as anything more then a friend. But, any girl that doesnt like us JUST because of our acne, ISNT worth our time. If all a girl cares about is whats on the outside, she isnt worth my time. Sure, some days go by we probaly wish we didnt have acne so we would have a "better" chace with the "very clear" faced stuck up cheerleaders and such, but if you think about it,would you rather have a girl that cares about the person you are, even with acne or one that only likes guys that have "clear faces"? Even if I was acne free,I still wouldent want a girl that only cares about looks and such.

I totally understand about the confidence thing. It is VERY hard to have confidence about going up to a girl or going out in public when u have a really bad breakout day.

The poll is right, yes, there are some girls that wouldent go out with a guy just because of acne, but its not true of all of them. Most girls say im not a bad looking guy at all...even with some acne.I have gone out with 5 girls the last 3 years, all of them very pretty, one is probaly one of the prettiest girls I have ever seen in my life, and all with virtually clear skin. You guessed it,all 5 of them could have cared less that I had acne. They liked me for who I was. And believe me,those are the best kind of girls hands down.

If you think about it,the days we go out and have no confidence at all just because of our acne, you never know what you could of been missing, you could of been somewhere and seen a nice girl looking at you,but you were too scared to go up to her just because of how you look. Or you never know what friend of yours that a girl may like you but you are too scared to ask her out because your afraid of being turned down. I pity the fact ive probaly missed ALOT of chances the last few years of meeting girls just because of my own self confidence. To hell with the girls that dont like us just because of one stupid condition we cant help. Despite acne I strive to have confidence in myself everyday.

Another good thing, is as we get older looks become much less on an issue, when I am out,I see so many guys in there 20's that are either ugly or have acne that are with very pretty girls. As we get older, girls start to realize that looks arent the whole deal which alot of teens think they are.

But its very untrue that theres no girls that wont look past your acne,Im living proof. And personally I think 50% of girls wouldent go out with a guy because of Acne is a little high.

Its very hard living with acne...but there are alot of us out there,at least we arent alone.Keep your chin up,Acne or not,we must make the best of life everyday,we only live once
