Please, What reduces Redness caused by medications? BP..retin-a...Reply thanks!

I'm wondering what can reduce the redness of the face caused by topical medications such as BP and retin-a...people stare and im tired of it! I even hear people ask if im wearing make up because it rounds off along my cheek bone, anyone use anything for this?? Please respond. Just wondering also, would aloe vera help reduce the redness faster than nothing? what about ice? Thanks

Would the petroleum in neosporin clog your pores? Anyone know of any other type of methods of reducing redness in the face? please reply

that happens with me too and my medicine, i also use retin-a. my boss always thinks i'm wearing make-up because that line right under the jaw line, like yours. i have to take a tissue and rub my face to prove i'm not wearing any. anyway, i find what helps me is moisturizer. i use cetaphil, i'm trying to find a different one though because it feels heavy and a little greasy, it doesn't make you break out though but i still dont like the feeling. i mean, the redness is caused buy dryness and irritaion. even if it doesn't feel dry or look flaky doesn't mean its not dry or irritated. dry using some moisturizer and see what happens. it probably isn't going to go away right away but keep using it for a little while and see what happens. hope this helps and good luck

Hehe, Diane we're both coming from the same point of view. I mean, i'm a guy, and i dunno if it's just me, but whenever someone comes up to me and actually has the nerve to ask me "omg are u wearing make up?!" (which i don't by the way lol) That totally makes me explode...i hate it, lol. Well my new regime is to apply retin-a micro, since it works great for me, every 2 days, and between those days apply my needed on the spot BP to the areas that need it. Also every morning i do use a moisturizer w/spf15 and AHA. It's made by purpose. Works great, and it isn't greasy, i mix aloe vera in w/it also. I find it helps a little more. And at night, when i do apply my retin-a micro, i apply a moisturizer after...It sucks though, i use tons of moisturizers and my skin is still dry Never fails, o well. Thanks for the tips everyone, u guys r great!
[This message has been edited by Kevin9870 (edited 02-17-2001).]

Hey,

I also have the red face problem. Both sides of my face are red. I think this is because of dry skin because I had it before I was ever on retin-a. I am going to use some moisturiser religously over the next week and see if I get any better.

okay so i guess my reply didn't help..lol..i saw that moistuizer you use in the store but because of the AHA's i didn't get it. i read in a magazine a while ago that new research shows that AHA's are acutally bad for your skin. i think they did the study in europe..(you know how they come up with everything first) anyway, i dont remeber anything about the ariticle or the magazine all i remember is that they say its bad. *sigh* anyways, maybe the BP is too harsh. do you use 10%? if you do, try using 2.5%. the only one i've seen with that little is neutrogena. it works just as good except is is A LOT less drying. or maybe you put too much stuff on your face, even though its supposed to soothe it and all that good stuff, maybe its just an overload and your skin is like "yo....easy" now, if this doesn't help you......i got nothin' else...so.....

Hey Diane,
Yes, i recently bought 2.5% and like it a lot better, throughout the day i just apply the vanishing directly on the pimple, and it actually diminishes that day....well most of the time I used retin-a micro last night, and because it "unplugs" the pores, it brings the gunk to the top of the skin, so my skin didn't look as well as it did yesterday. hehe...welsh, thanks for your help! -Kev

kevin, i think you're using too much.

your regimine while on retin-a should be something like this: use a mild face wash in the morning and at night before you put the tretinoin on. that's it. the ahas in the moisturizer you use might be doing you a disservice. the benzoyl peroxide definitely is. if you have a few places, you can use the 2.5% on them, but sparingly. no more than twice a day, and lightly. don't overdo it.

and use a moisturizer in the morning after you wash your face. it should last until you get from school (i assume you're school age by what you said. i may be confused here though), and after you get home, you can put some more on. you won't need a whole lot, but that'll help. you may have to experiment to find out which ones work best for you. i used to use aveeno, which is really good. i use cetaphil now, which works fine. you probably know to get one that's non-comedogenic, so, other than that, you should be ok if you do the above.

are you on retin-a or retin-a micro? if it's not retin-a micro, you may want to have them switch it. it's the same substance, just a little less harsh on your skin.

I'm using Retin-a micro
Babydoll- Did that cortizone clog your pores? because isn't it in a petroleum form? i think that would because it's thick...

Hey BabydollJ im really glad to hear cortizone helped u, my grandfather was the one who synthesized it. (before that u could only get cortizone from killing cows, which wasn't good of course.)
