Exfoliator needed?

Hey guys!

Well, Im doing 3g of b5 now, and its working out pretty well. Also using purpose bar in the shower 2 times a day, and BP after that (neutrogena). Now... what im wondering is....

Do most of you guys use an exfoliator of some kind to get the dead skin away? If not, is there something certain u do to get the skin away? I'm not sure if the purpose bar alone is doing it , though it may be. I used to use a exfoliator based with alcohol but i found it a little irritating and very drying.

Re: Exfoliator needed?

Sure! An exfoliator might be a good thing to have.

There's two different types of exfoliation. One being mechanical. The other is chemical.

Mechanical is anything where you apply soap to it and rub it around your face. A washcloth [although a poor method] might be considered mechanical. You can buy "face brushes" and "face sponges" at the Body Shop. With soap, these are mechanical.

Chemical exfoliators are the ones that comes with special scrubby beads or grains already mixed in them. Some of these can be VERY harsh, so use with caution! My favorite is the Tea Tree Oil one from the Body Shop- it has B5 in it. I use this one once or twice a week. No more. And then, everyday, I use an exfoliator from Ponds...I can't recall what its name is at the moment, but it comes in a little tube with "gentle microbeads". Daily Refining Cleanser or something to that effect. I know L'oreal makes one, too. I love the stuff, and it has really over the course of a few months smoothed my skin out. It also has a touch of menthol in it, so it makes your skin tingly. Good stuff.

Just use exfoliators with caution. They're a really good thing to add to your routine, but just don't get too carried away.

Best of luck to you.

Re: Exfoliator needed?

Actually, I have found that using a washcloth and cetaphil is a pretty effective method of exfoliation...I've yet to find any chemical exfoliator that works better. However, I also change the washcloth every day to prevent bacteria buildup and I use well-worn washcloths.

Another good method is to just mix a little baking soda with cetaphil and gentle massage your skin with it. The grains of the baking soda will exfoliate your skin.

Re: Exfoliator needed?

I've tried using a toner, the only thing it really did for me is dry my skin out and make it more iritated. But, people react to things differently, so what might not have worked for me, might actually work for you.

Re: Exfoliator needed?

So, most of you are using the Cetaphil cleanser, not a purpose product.... Which Cetaphil cleanser is the one you guys use? I see quite a few out there.

Re: Exfoliator needed?

One another question, these chemical exfoliators, exactly WHAT are they? By that I mean are they kinda like a creme, or clear alcohol type liquid (like a toner), or what?

Re: Exfoliator needed?

Oops, I should have clarified.

They can be both. Some toners come with Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids and those DO exfoliate. They tend to be quite harsh, though, and are only usually used if you want to fade old red marks.

Most chemical exfoliators are just a mixture of either sand like things, or microbeads, with an almost soap like substance. You might have seen the St. Ives Apricot Scrub before, and that's a chemical exfoliator.
