Don't use accutane!!!!

People who are on accutane or about to, DON'T!! No matter what ure derm says. Why? Cuz I read this huge thing on it from a skin expert and he says it will cause you to break out after few months (even if ure skin is becoming more clear). The more you use it, the more you'll regret it in the future. It will also cause hair loss, shreddy nails, blindness, horimone symptoms, memory loss and sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more. Had to get this out to everyone. Shocked me too.
Oh and somethin I heard from some guy on another message board. He uses egg yolk masks every night 'n says it cures acne within couple months. Haven't tried it yet*

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

ive always said, accutane is a short term solution, but its proven 90 percent of people have there acne back after a time, i know so many people who use accutane, it works, say its gr8 then little while later, it all comes back, accutane is short term solution to a long term problem...

If you haven't used Accutane, you shouldn't be warning people away from it, or promoting it for that matter. As someone who has been on it three times, and had to repeat it because of recurring acne, I can STILL say, that it was wonderful for me and I don't know where I would be without it. No, it is not 100% forever cure. But it gave me my life back, and if my acne comes back, I will go back on it again.

Like my Derm says...no pain, no gain.

And by the way, a lot of ordinary products may use every day can give you cancer. Get the facts.
[This message has been edited by moderator3 (edited 05-10-2001).]

You guys may have your own opinion on accutane.. but i know many many people who have been off accutane more than a year and their acne has not come back. It may be a short term solution for some, but for many others its a cure. Different people, different outcomes.

yes yes shes right...dont use accutane! I read that you will grow an extra arm. And of course, if something doesnt work for someone, it wont work for anyone. and what about the people that have had results with accutane? dont nock a product or drug just because of something you read. If I believed everything I read, I wouldnt have used any drug for my acne b/c theres always people a drug doesnt work for, and they are the loudest.

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

Lynx, Rivaldo: I'm glad accutane worked for you. But telling Angelbaby and simon^ to shut up about it because they havn't tried it is like telling someone they can't have an opinion on slavery because they've never been slaves. The fact is, many people have been hurt badly by accutane. We want others to know this so their drug-decision is an informed one.

JMP: it's true that lots of products cause cancer. But that alone doesn't seem like a good argument for seeking them out.

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

i have no problem with informing the public of possible complication with a drug. However, I wouldn't consider it informing. It's a lot of one sided figures. You can rip any drug apart and find people that suffer from a drug. In Germany, you are responsible for stopping a medication if it's causing you problems. If a drug is causing you problems...stop taking it. A lot of people that are complaining about reactions from a medication should reconsider if it's worth it. If not, stop taking the drug and you won't have horror stories. Telling people "DONT TAKE ACCUTANE, WHATEVER YOU DO" isnt informing. This statement fails to highlight the possible advantages someone can gain by taking Accutane.

FYI: A study just came out about Accutane having a link to severe clinical depression.
I think its definately a potent drug that shouldn't be taken lightly without getting all the facts first. I am always so happy however to hear that some drug somewhere is making an acne sufferer happy with the results

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

Rivaldo: The problem with accutane is this: by the time you notice your side effect (a really bad headache, for instance) you may already have permanent neurological damage. And since accutane stays in your body for at least a month after you take the last pill, new side effects may not appear until after you've quit it.

It's untruthful to say that if you stop taking accutane, "you won't have horror stories." Just ask the ex-accutane users at Dr. Stoll's acne web site (access the search engine "Excite"...search for "Dr. Stoll accutane acne"...click on his link...go to "archives"). Lives have been ruined by this little pill that no one really understands.

Look, everyone knows how accutane has changed lives for the better. Roche Pharmaceuticals has spent millions of advertising dollars convincing us of this.

What most people don't know is that accutane has also changed lives for the worse. No special interest groups (except the FDA and one senator who lost his accutane-taking child to suicide) have ever worked to inform the public of accutane's dangers. That's why Angelbaby, mcfry, me, and others are reearching it and sharing our results with all of you. We think you should know. And unlike Roche, our income doesn't rely on convincing you we're right.

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

Eleise: here's how to get to Roche Pharmaceuticals' complete Accutane information:
1). Access the search engine "Metacrawler." 2.) In Metacrawler's search bar, type "Roche Pharmaceuticals."
3.) Click on Roche's site link.
4.) Choose "United States."
5.) Scroll down the product list and click on Accutane (generic name "isotretinoin").
6.) Click on the link for "Complete Product Information."

Here's how to get to personal testimonials from current and ex-accutane users:
1.) Access the search engine "Excite."
2.) Type "Dr. Stoll Accutane acne" in the search bar.
3.) Click on the Dr. Stoll homepage link.
4.) Click on the "acne" and "archives" buttons.
5.) Click on the individual dated entries.

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

I'm doing everything I can to avoid Accutane, because I think it is toxic.

But these claims that it doesn't work, the acne almost always comes back are just absurd. I've known MANY people who have taken the drug, and have never had problems with acne since. I'm 30 years old, and some of my friends took it when we were 15-16 years old, and it flat out cured their acne. The drug is brutal, but I've seen it work wonders.

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

mcfry: I agree completely with your comment. I'd like to add something, as well.

It's vital that Accutane users have their bodies examined frequently while they're taking it. Here are the body parts and and systems that Accutane most frequently affects:

1.) Mind (fatigue, depression, psychosis, suicide, headache, ringing ears)
2.) Eyes (night blindness, cataracts, visual disturbances, myopia, severe dryness, corneal inflammation, optic nerve swelling, conjunctivitis)
3.) Digestive (inflammatory bowel disease, inflamed pancreas)
4.) Blood (elevated cholesterol, elevated triglycerides, diabetes, anemia, abnormally quick-settling red cells, decreased white cells, elevated platelets, decreased platelets, uric acid in blood, leukemia)
5.) Skeleton (premature bone fusing, arthritus, osteoporosis, abnormal bone growth, joint pain)
6.) Heart (artery plaque buildup, chest pain, heart wall inflammation, violently rapid heart beat)
7.) Endocrine (tumors)
8.) Skin (severe dryness, eyelid inflammation, severe sloughing, acne conglobata, acne fulminans, increase in hair growth, gum inflammation, erupting nodules, nail infection, severe itching, nose bleeds, gum bleeding, papules, sweating, inflammed lips, rash, hair thinning, pus-producing tumors, peeling, infection, sun sensitivity, changes in nail shape)
9.) Reproductive (severe birth defects, testicular atrophy)
10.) Healing (lymph node disease, slow wound healing, abnormal scabbing)
11.) Voice (mouth/throat dryness, voice changes)
12.) Excretory (decreased liver function, hepatitis, protein in urine, blood in urine, liver tumors)

I found 95% of the above effects in the "Complete Product Information" packet published by Accutane's manufacturer, Roche Pharmaceuticals. I translated them from sciencespeak to English with the help of Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary.

The other 5% came from various other scientific studies, such as "Bone Densities in Patients Receiving Isotretinoin for Cystic Acne" by Leachman, Insogna, et. al.
[This message has been edited by skater (edited 05-12-2001).]

Re: Don't use accutane!!!!

Mark00: Good for you. I hope you find a way to cure your skin without poisoning yourself. I made a list of the natural ways I cleared my skin and posted it under the heading "accutane and blurry vision." It's pretty long, so you might have to wait a while for the moderators to comb through it. I hope it helps ya'
