    Diane-35 Update

I've been on Diane-35 for 4 1/2 months now. I've suffered from inflammatory and cystic acne on my back. I probably have not had a breakout in about 2 months. It has really been a blessing. My skin looks so much better, even though I have a couple bad scarrs, it looks so much better. I remember when I wanted to wear a sleeveless shirt, I had to wear make-up on my arms and shoulders, now I can skip that.
As for my face, I always had an occational breakout, but never bad. It was more of that "normal" acne, NOT inflammatory or cystic, thank God. Making the decision to take Diane-35 was for my back, it was my only concern, my face has never really concerned me. But, I thought I would be eliminating all my problems with Diane-35, but it has not been that way. As I said before my back is great, but my face, it seems like I breakout a bit more frequent than before, and again nothing too bad, but still. It just does not make any sense to me.
If anyone has any insight, I would really appreciate it. Anyone else who is on Diane-35, if you wouldn't mine posting an update, I would also appreicate that.

    Re: Diane-35 Update

im also on diane35, i have been on it since the begining of november, so its about 3 and a half months now and i have seen a great improvement in my skin
after the first month i could see a diference, my face hardly ever breaks out anymore and my back is clear too but full of scars, i have only a cople scars on my face, nothing to talk about
my face is really smooth to the touch and is not as oily as it was before diane35
my derm told me to take 3 more packs and then she wants me to stop and see if the acne will return
but i am very afraid to do that as i know it will come back and maybe worse than it ever was???
so diane35 has helped me so much, if only i had realised i had hormonal acne before i would have had clear skin a very long time ago
the only problem i have had is that i have terrible mood swings now an i think daine35 may be responsible
    other than that its great!

    Re: Diane-35 Update

Is Diane 35 similar to ortho-tricyclen? Is it also an anti-androgenic birth control pill? where is it available-not in US? Have you any other side effects from it (i.e. weight gain). I'm taking alesse which is a low dose pill and i've seen some improvement in my skin-its my 3rd month. How long do birth control pills take to kick in when clearing acne?...many questions <IMG SRC="">

    Re: Diane-35 Update

Concerning the weight gain question, here is what Schering (company that makes Diane-35) said:
(This information was posted on another site by Rae)
You are quite right about cyproterone acetate being an anti-androgen - therefore there should be no weight gain. However, this is unfortunately not so because: (a) although cyproterone acetate is not a progestagen- it has a very strong progestagenic effect thus causing fluid retention (b) the oestrogen is mainly responsible for causing weight gain in combined oral contraceptives due to possible fat redistribution and perhaps improving appetite.

Since Diane 35 contains 35mcg oestrogen it is more likely than other pills to cause weight gain - How much? I hear you ask? Between 2-5kg but some women also lose weight on Diane 35. The % weight gain for any pill is 25% will lose weight, 25% will stay the same and 50% will gain weight. as quoted by several studies. It is really dependant on your genetic disposition also.

Hopefully this helps! Personally I haven't experienced any weight gain on Daine-35. I'll post more info about orthotricyclen vs. diane-35 and stuff later....

I took Diane for 5 months. I stopped last month b/c I think it was the cause of my hair shedding severely. It was improving my skin and I hated to stop it, but I had to. I even lost 5 lbs while on it. What's weird is that a lot of women take it to stop hair loss. I never thought it would cause mine to fall out. Good luck to you.

    Re: Diane-35 Update

I am in my 8th month on diane 35. My skin is much smoother. Better yet, my hair is a lot less oily. Before diane 35, I would wash my hair in the morning and by about 2 in the afternoon it would be greasy and limp. Now I can go 2 days without washing my hair if I had to.
The progress was really slow. It took about 5 months to notice any difference. In fact, my skin did break out initially and I wanted to stop. I told myself that I would try it for 6 cycles to see if it would help. Glad I did.

Diane 35 is not available in the USA, but can be purchased legally from an online foreign pharmacy. Try a search engine to find a site. Most sites do not require that you have a prescription, but I would highly recommend that you get a physical before starting any kind of hormone therapy because there can be a lot of risks associated with the pill. Also, if you choose this way to deal with your acne--don't smoke. Smoking can magnify the risks.

    Re: Diane-35 Update

I started taking Diane-35 last September and started to see results about 2 months later. I hardly break out anymore-- now my concern is all the red marks that my acne left behind.

I usually order my Diane from Hair2go.Com. I've found them to be pretty reliable but I know there are other pharmacies that are probably just as good.

Good luck to all of you.

    Re: Diane-35 Update

I'm on alesse (very low pill, 20mcg of estrogen) now and this next cycle will be my fourth. I am very interested in trying Diane-35 but do you think i should wait until at least 6 cycles on alesse to see if i've given in a fair chance. Also, if i switch to Diane-35, can i tell my ob/gyn that i'm on it? its just strange to start taking a prescription drug by just ordering it---hhhhmmm...slightly sketchy, but i'll do anything for clear skin. Also how much $ is it? THANKS!!!
