survey of who has scarring acne

    Hi there guys,
well most of the people on this board come here for support, in their constant acne battle. I would like to take a survey of how many people here actually have scarring acne....please feel free to contriute to the survey....thanks!!!

had acne since-very mild at age 11 and a bit worse at 13...stopped between 16 got worse from retina a....16-19-mild to very moderate....then stopped for another 21 turned cystic, which has left scars.
Type of scars- both discolorations and indentations/pitting.
Type of medication-retina,persa gel, cleotcin, differin, benozyl peroxide,proactive...currently just finished accutane about 8 days ago....results were ok...but i still get one or 2 cysts and smaller pimples and blackheads...
What i plan on doing for scarring- maybe microdermabrasion sometimes in the future, vasoline, pulse dye laser.

Re: survey of who has scarring acne

HAD ACNE SINCE-I have had mild acne ever since the third grade- so I had to of been about 9 years old. At first antibiotics and retin-a worked, but about 5 years ago it turned cystic. I've been on Accutane once, and now with antibiotics once again I'm left with is clear skin. Hopefully it will stay that way!
TYPE OF SCARS- I have a few red marks, but my red marks have a tendency to disappear quickly, thank god. I have quick healing skin. I do have slight pitted scarring on my cheeks. From far away it looks like I have none, upclose it just looks like my face is a bit rough looking. Actually, it looks like I've spent lots of time out in the sun. Can't decide if that's a good thing or not...
TYPE OF MEDICATION-Right now I just started Tetracycline. I was so unsatisfied with my Accutane results- I'd still get a big bump about once every week. I've been on Tetracycline for a few days now, and I've cleared right now. I have also used 10% benzyol peroxide to help rid of a few bumps that didn't seem to want to budge. My skin looks absolutely fabulous right now though, and I hope it stays that way...
WHAT I PLAN ON DOING FOR SCARRING- Probably nothing. Maybe a Microdermabrasion a few years down the road. It honestly doesnt bother me that much. I have two chicken pox scars, and they are WAY more noticeable than the acne scarring. I don't feel that it makes me any less attractive. Out of curiosity, I asked my dermo what she would do for the scarring. She said just using an Alpha Hydroxy Acid would diminish it greatly. And the only thing she would do to remove the chicken pox scars [which are kind of cute, I think] would be a chemical peel- where they peel the top layer of skin off your face. And your face stays red for up to a year after. Um, no thank you.

Ive had acne ever since grade 6, usually mild, worse in the winter but generally non-existant or very mild in summer. My scaring is all discolorment from the acne, red dots etc. For the last month or so I havent gotten any new acne or pimples, but the redness is still there, and ive tried alot to get rid of it. it isnt concentrated in dots anymore, it just looks solid pink or light red accross the whole side of my face, it doesnt look that bad, but it looks blotchy and kinda funny <IMG SRC="">

Re: survey of who has scarring acne

    hi there

i'm 33. had perfect skin all throughout teenage years. first mild break-out i was 22 and it was on my back.

used my brother's retin-a (he had bad skin--and i made fun of him-- karma?) the retin-a made the break-out spread.

had mild acne until the age of 25--when i started graduate school. it got progressively worse--and became cystic 3 years ago. antibiotics have not worked. differin has not worked either. only retin-a seems to help me lose the red scarring afterwards.

i just started ortho-tri-cyclen 5 weeks ago. one of the worst breakouts of my life was my welcome. i'm a little lost. what i want -- is to know more about diane 35-- and to know how i can get access to it in the US.

someday i hope/plan to get laser resurfacing. a decade of acne has left my skin in less than ideal shape. does anyone know anything about photo rejuvination?

i can't believe how much money i spend on my skin. i'd have a much better wardrobe if it wasn't for my acne.

    that's about it.

I had my first photo facial 2 days ago. I can already see a difference. He is trying to raise the scars and then use microdermabrasion to smooth out the skin. I'm fairly hopeful that it will improve my appearance.

    Name: GWLE
    Age: 22
Acne History: Started to get my first pimples around 13. Had my first major breakout when I was 14. Took Retin-A (.1%) w/TetraCylcine. It went away. Skin perfect, but stained my teeth yellow for life!
Had my second and worst major breakout(cystic) when I was 17. Took retin-A(.1%) w/TetraCylcine again. Over did the dosage and was left with a chemical burn on my face(literally burned off my acne). Left with bad scarring and pitting afterwards. Now at 22, recently had another breakout(mild cystic). Currently using Avita Cream (.025%), erythamyocin(oral), melanex, and Clindamycin(topical). So far I have more scarring and pitting due to medication. I have an appointment tommorrow to get my first glycolic acid peel at 30%.
Medications used: including the above mentioned with almost everything over the counter such as noxema, benzoil peroxide, stridex, astrigents, etc...

Re: survey of who has scarring acne

Hi. I am 21, only had mild acne during high school for a couple years. The problem is, on my forehead i have a few shallow acne scars that look just like enlarged pores. They are not noticeable really, they just sort of give my skin a less than perfect texture. Any recommendations to erase these very shallow scars? I have fair skin and have been undergoing microdermabrasion, had 4 sessions so far, not much improvement yet. I wonder if a deeper peel would be needed. Anyone recommend the Erbium YAG peel? Anybody who has dealt with this type of acne scarring successfully please advise! Thanks in advance!

Re: survey of who has scarring acne

I'm 24 and I've had acne since I was 10. I have some red spots, but mostly pitted scarring on my cheeks. I'm currently taking Ortho Tricyclen and using Tazorac and switcing between Plexion face wash and Benzac face wash. I have samples of Triaz, 10% benzoyl peroxide, that I use for stubborn huge pimples. It works pretty well. My face has cleared up quite a bit since starting the pill and Tazorac, but I have awful scars left behind. I'm desperate to have something done for them. I'm seeing my dermatologist soon and asking about laser surgery or what the best treatment is. I know I have to wait for my skin to be as clear as possible first, or it will be a waste of money, but I have no idea when that will be. My deeper scarring seemed to appear around age 16 or 17 and keeps getting worse.
