Just strated Neo Strata and Glycolic Acid Peels

    Hey guys,

Well I've finally decided to take the big plunge and try something new in hopes to clear up my acne. I've been following the advice of my dermatologist for six years now and have gotten nowhere. I went to see another doctor in town who performs glycolic acid peels. She sold me their skin regimen kit to start off with and said to come back in a week (or whenever I can afford it) to get my first peel. I'm feeling VERY nervous but excited at the same time. I've been ripped off by so many products this new thing scares the h*ll out of me. So far so good though.

I'm taking a series of before and after pictures just to see if the product is working. I will share them with the board if you guys are interested. I have bad scarring with redmarks all over my face and some pitting. I still break out from pustulates on occassion but not as bad as I used to. Basically I'm left working with a mess left over from all the creams and soaps my derm had me on.

For anyone interested I've been on: tetracycline, minocycline, Marvelon 28, Diane35, K-Flex, ProActiv, Solugel8, Benzol Peroxide, Clindamycin and Accutane twice. During both treatments of Accutane I suffered from severe folliculitis breakouts and had to be taken off the medication. My dermatologist said he had never seen anyone react to Accutane like that and after discussions with various other dermatologists at seminars they concluded they had never seen anything like it either. Makes you feel really good about yourself huh? Kinda like a bunch of kids going "COoollll we've never seen that before" except it's about your face. But anyways...

I've taken my own path and I pray to God that it works. If anyone else has had experience using the NeoStrata skin regimen products and having glycolic acid peels would they mind sharing their results with me? I could really use a friend through all of this. It's so tough when you feel like the only one.

Thanks for your time guys, take care,

    Kimberly

    Hi Kimberly,

I'm getting my second glycolic peel tonight. This is for the red/brown marks left from acne and some pitted scars. I didn't see any results from the 1st glycolic treatment, just made my face shiny and smoother. I'm hoping to God I'll see real improvements as I go through the treatment (I'm also currently using minocin and tretinoin cream so I hpoe that's gonna help) This acne crap is making my life hell.

Good luck to you and keep posting for updates.

Hi, are you guys doing glycolic peels at your derm's or at a spa? Because there are 30%/40% available to buy from the 'net which are as cheap at $15 a bottle. 30% peels may not have as dramatic results as a 70% peel the first time, but you can do 30% peels once a week, whereas 70% peels are recommended to be used only once every fortnight. Also, there is no downtime. Glycolic acid is great! Wish I discovered it before I wasted thousands of dollars on useless creams and pills..

    Hi Johnny,
Did your dermatologist say that glycolic Acid peels will help with pitted scars, because mine does not think that peels help at all with pitted scars. I've had three 205 tca's so far, which is similar to a 70% glycolic acid peel, and I can't say I see much improvement in the pitted scars (which are very shallow) as yet. i had two done in february, and one a week and a half ago, I'm having a fourth next Friday, and I'm hoping that is my last. Can you tell me how the glycolic acid peels go, I think my dermatologist is reluctant to try those on me because my skin color is darker. Thanks.

What will the % be with your first glycolic peel? I had a 70% peel for some red marks and I will be getting another in a few weeks. I think you will be pleased but it may take more than one session. Just be prepared for dry flakey skin for the first few days post treatment.

    Hi Sweetgirl,

I have no idea what percentage my first peel will be but I'm hoping for a strong one so I can see a noticeable difference? I can already feel a difference in my skin today using the Neo Strata products alone. Whenever I used my Clindamycin cream and would wash up with my Spectro Gram soap my skin always felt really rough and flakey. Now it feels smoother and softer. Not to mention my skin actually has a healthy glow to it instead of peeling flakes everywhere. It's great. I hope this progress continues.

I still have a lot of redness though. Can't wait for that to go away. I'd love to start the glycolic acid peels right away but at $100/per I can't afford one right away. I might save up and try to get a package of them, you save a few dollars that way.

    Thanks for your reply!

    Kim

canada2k, if you go to ebay, just type in glycolic peel. You should come up with a few. I just purchased one last Friday (it arrived Monday!). I got the 30% peel and i am using it for brown marks. Hope this helps.

Re: Just strated Neo Strata and Glycolic Acid Peels

    Hi guys,

Well, I just had my second glycolic treatment at 40% yesterday. It didn't get rid of the red marks left from acne but it's starting to get smaller/fading tough. Overall, I'm a little disappointed but I think glycolic works great. The only major hassle is you have to come back for the treatments every two weeks. I don't think it really gets rid of acne scars completely, just reduces it. By the way, I'm also using 12% glycolic cream and a skin balance toner.

And to KimberlyC, when are you getting your first treatment? And where are you getting it? I live in Canada and they've got this acne clinic called "Radiant Skin". And they've got great service. Good Luck!

how powerfull are 30% peels? I have read that there is not much 'peeling' but a little flaking and the extend is that your skin is red for 24 hours?! I might look into a 20% peel if 30% is to powerfull. I dont want to much down time, as I need to attend school and work.

    Hey canada2k,

I live in Toronto, Ontario. The "Radiant Skin" acne clinic I'm talking about is located three blocks away from where I lived. I really thank God for that. Anyways, I just wanna know if anybody here knows about this clinic since it's service is great and reputable.

And to EbonyF, do you have any scars from acne or just using glycolic peels to enchance the face? How many treatments have you done so far? Are you seeing any results?

Re: Just strated Neo Strata and Glycolic Acid Peels

canada2k, Actually I believe 30% is considered a "mild" peel. The highest that I have heard of is 70% which is usually done by a dermatalogist. As for redness afterwards, i don't know since everyone skin is different. I didn't experience any, just the flaking and peeling which isn't all that noticeable if you are moisturizing your face.

johnnym, *grin* I WISH I was getting the peels just to enhance my beauty. Unfortunately they are for brown marks in which I have left over from acne (I am African American). I've only done one so far, and my second one will be Monday. The results are pretty good so far for just being ONE peel. I had some marks which peeled off a layer and are now a shade lighter. Hopefully this pattern will continue for the weeks to come...

Re: Just strated Neo Strata and Glycolic Acid Peels

i just talked to the nurse in a plastic surgeon's office today when setting up an apptmnt for a laser resurface consultation, and she mentioned that they also did glycolic peels there, but the max is 30%. she also stated that it is a 30% pure glycolic acid peel and the ones that are being touted as 70% strength is buffered down w/ other stuff so its not as strong as the ones they have listed at 30%.

does anyone know if this is the truth or is she just tooting their own horn, so to speak?

Re: Just strated Neo Strata and Glycolic Acid Peels

oh another thing too is that she stated its better to have a chemical peel (such as tca or jessner) rather than doing a glycolic acid peel. i asked her how come, since i've heard so many raving reviews about the effectiveness of glycolic peels and she said thats because the chemical peels does a *MUCH* better job of smoothing out your skin from scarring than glycolic/alphahydroxy peels.

    what do you guys think?
