Does Benzamycin and Dynacin really work?

My daughter has been using Benzamycin for 3 weeks and Dynacin (brand name for minocycline) for one week. So far nothing. The benzamyacin keeps them from getting bigger but still there. In fact the pimples now have a hard skin on top. Will they go away or be small forever. Seems to trap the zits with a hard layer. Before, they would come to a head and get extracted and go away. Not possible now. Does this stuff really work. Seems plain old Oxy 10 did a better job.

I have tried both Benzamycin and Minocycline in the past, with no results at all. But if she has only been on it a week, keep using it and see how it turns out. I waited six weeks (standard antibiotic treatment length) with no avail. I think it would be best to do that. But if nothing else happens and she continues to break out, see your dermatologist again so she can try a new antibiotic.

Re: Does Benzamycin and Dynacin really work?

I have used both Benzamycin and Minocycline. Benzamycin worked fairly well after about 6 weeks (this was about 3 years ago) and that is what I used for up until the one month ago. However, I found that it was not nearly as effective during the past year as it was when I first started treatment. I started Minocin 50mg one month ago and stopped Benzamycin (because it was not longer working), all I can say is that taking minocin was WORSE than using nothing. My acne became considerably worse and I have since stopped treatment.

I am now (as of today) on Stievamycin gel (generic name: Erythromycin and Tretinoin) and I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it.

Of note: I have also, and still am using Dalacin T (a liquid in a dabber bottle) and I must say it worked rather well, except it only works on large red pimples. It is good because you may use it when one area is bad and it works, or you may not use it at all if not needed.

I started to use Benzamycin at the first sign of acne (runs in the family) that was about a year ago and I'm still using it today. It drys my face out really bad but it works and keeps my skin pretty clear. I'm going to the derm in a few weeks to see what he can do about my dry skin.

I am currently taking minocin (another brand of minocycline) and azelex. I have been on tetracyclin, differin, and accutane before.
You should remember that antibiotics will work very nicely if it is your first time taking it. (one of the best treatments)
However it just takes a long time for it to work.
I would advice you to stay with it if it is your first antibiotic treatment. (give it at least 2 months)
If you take it for a long time then bacteria gets immune to the drug and the effectiveness will decrease.... but that is another story....
    good luck.

Re: Does Benzamycin and Dynacin really work?

Minocycline along with Clintandel T pads and Differin cream have worked great for me. I had results in about 3 weeks of treatment, and what I would call a "full recovery" in about 8 weeks. Read my post to get my full story.

    Hi KimmieCat,

How long have you been on minocycline?

    How much do you take?

How long before you noticed results?

Thank you for your encouraging words.

Re: Does Benzamycin and Dynacin really work?

I have been on Minocycline for 10 weeks and I take 100MG a day (one pill before bedtime). I noticed results after about 3 weeks. My problem was that as soon as one cyst would go away, another would pop up... after three weeks or so I stopped getting them altogether. The rest of the little tiny regular pimples I would get right before my period went away also. Like I said I am also using the T pads and Differin cream (the cream is really good for dry skin, as opposed to the gel which has a more drying effect). You are a great mom for posting this for her, it shows you really care. Tell your daughter to keep her chin up... believe me, things can improve greatly.
