    Does Ice really work?

before you get a cyst growing, you can feel the pain beneath the skin, i was wondering if Ice really reduces the size that it gets?
the ones i get arent cysts really, they are just flat big and round, you can barely see them unless i put my face right to the mirror, but they hurt, was wondering if ice would help these?

i've found that ice helped reduce the redness and soreness of big cysts, especially if you ice it RIGHT when you discover it.. that is what i did with the big ones that i used to get.. then i put some BP on it or something and didn't touch it! 9 times out of 10, picking at a cyst will make it a LOT worse

no, it doesn't really work. It may numb your face so you don't feel the pain of the cyst, but it's not going to make it any smaller in the long run.

Thats not true freeatlast, ice, and anything significantly colder than the body, stimulates blood flow and reduces swelling. And pimples and cysts are just that, swelling. A newly forming pimple could possibly sometime (not always) have a significantly less 'max size', if it is iced when it begins to form.

Like mechalan and jim, I do believe that ice does really really work! Especially as jim said, when you get the acne right as it is forming. It will decrease the size of the breakout. Also, when you ice a zit, the top layer of the skin is "broken" and the medication you put on top will absorb better, like Benzoyl Peroxide. bella

Eh. I tried ice the other day on a hurty. It didn't change anything and it's a big pain to hold a cube on your face. I'm out of sandwich bags so it just melted all over.
I read a long time ago on the old board that a warm compress reduces cystic acne. That works on me sometimes.
But I am afraid of water now that I'm on the no water wagon. I thought about it for a while and realized that I do believe my face was better when I was staying at a house with really soft water. I hate the feel of soft water...kind of greasy feeling....but where I live now, the water is nasty and really hard. Hmmm....*ponders over the molecular compounds of hard water*.

A warm compress will help bring it to a head if it is already swollen ... ice cubes help to reduce the swelling, redness, and "max size" .. this is what i've experienced.

Icing my cyst almost always helps reduce the size and from forming into a white head. But sometimes the thing is so big, nothing will stop it <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">.

When u guys get a cyst that forms into a whitehead, do u usually pop the whitehead? Now i dont mean pick at it, i mean just pop it when its plump and ready?

    Re: Does Ice really work?

I usually put astringent on it or some BP and then pop it carefully and then put neosporin on it.. As long as you are careful and it doesn't get infected and you don't pick at it after u pop it.. it goes away much quicker. However you are left with a red mark, and it doesn't fade as quickly. If you leave it alone and let it go away on it's own time, the red mark afterwards will disappear quicker
