    minocycline users, when did work?

For the minocycline users of this board, when did you first see results after using this drug?

I've been on it for a mere 4 days @ 100mg twice a day, no results so far, but I wasn't expecting any this soon.

Took me about 2 weeks, around the same time when the side effects (dizziness, etc.) went away. I only took it for about a month and a half though, then my derm switched me back. I'm honestly thinking of going back to my crappy derm, I don't hink I can handle this myself. I hate myself too much. I might not even goto my prom.

It wont wipe the acne off of your face BUTafter a few months you will notice that it has killed the bacteria and you will barely ever see a new zit again. however, all of your forming zits will be oushed to the surface, so youll have a warzone for a while.

    Ruffeo--
I've been on minocycline for about 3 monthes (100mg twice a day) and I first started to see some results around about 3 weeks, nothing spectacular until week 5 however. After that the only breakouts I ever got were pretty small. Now at 3 monthes my skin is virtually clear...if I could just erase all the red marks you would never know I had acne.

Re: minocycline users, when did work?

    Ruffeo,

I was on minocycline for four months, starting last April. I had been using Proactiv before that, and although it was working pretty well, I was still getting maybe one or two cysts every month, so I finally went to a doctor. He prescribed a six month course of mino along with Azelex (azelaic acid), and I stopped using the Proactiv during that time. Within two days, two large cysts on my jawline (which had been there for over a month) were gone, and my breakouts were very mild for the next few months. I noticed almost immediate improvement with the combo of Azelex and mino.

Unfortunately, after a few months of this, the cysts returned with a vengeance. I kept up the mino for another month, then decided it was no longer working (perhaps even making things worse) and went off of all meds until just this February. My doctor thought that my current skin problems were caused by staph bacteria which was resistant to mino. This can happen after long term use after all of the ``friendly'', acne-promoting bacteria have been killed, leaving much more virulent strains (like the kind that cause boils).

Summary: mino+azelex worked immediately, but after a few months, mino stopped working and new infections appeared.

By the way, after going to the emergency room for a bad staph infection on my face, the doc prescribed another antibiotic called keflex. After two weeks of this (just stopped yesterday), my face is TOTALLY free of cysts and pimples, with just red marks left. I'm now using just Proactiv and B5 and hoping I can keep this under control.

    Hope this helps.

Re: minocycline users, when did work?

For me it took about 3 weeks or so of 100mg twice a day. After I got pretty clear and didn't have any new pimples forming, I went down to 100mg ONCE a day. Now I'm thinking about tapering off even more. I'd rather do that than build a resistance to it, in case I need to go back on it at some point.
