There is no yes or no answer to your question. It all depends on what expert you listen to. Some say foods high in fat can cause acne, some say it has nothing to do with it.Personally, I think foods high in fat do affect acne to a degree. My sister who is a doctor, and battled acne, thinks there is connection, for whatever that's worth! I find when I don't eat good and don't drink a lot of water my face suffers. Of course, I went on accutane and now my face is clear. Sorry if this confuses you more!

hi there, i was on the atkins diet for quite a long time, i lost a grand total of about forty to fifty pounds on the diet, but my acne was NEVER worse. there is no connection, for me, between acne and dieting, because now i am on a very low calorie diet without sugar, and i am on accutane right now. i think that drugs/vitamins are really the only thing that can solve the problem forever. and who wants to eat lettuce leaves all their life? did anyone ever notice that if we didn't eat everything that was bad for us, we would be eating MAYBE a few broccoli spears? i mean doctors say to keep fat, sugars, carbohydrates, sodium low levels. all i can picture is a 98 pound man sitting drinking a diet coke and running around a track. <IMG SRC="">

Diana I partly agree with you but I have even heard that broccoli isn't good (too much iodine) and diet coke isn't good(aspartame). So basically many people have their own theories to the effect of diet. I do believe though that generally the Atkins diet wouldn't really be good for your complexion. Your body actually goes into a state of acidosis on this diet and breaks down ketones in your urine which is what happens with diabetics. That doesn't sound too safe to me. Also it definately isn't balanced and how would you get all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to heal because popping a vitamin and eating healthy nutritious foods just isn't the same. Maybe it would be o.k. to be on the diet for just a little while to lose a couple pounds but if I were you I would just try a healthy low fat diet if you want to lose weight. That is just my advice of course and you should choose what you feel is best.
