Re: Ketosis and acne??

hi, i'm going to be starting the atkins diet tomorrow (saturday the 14th) and i'll be following it strictly, so i will let you know.

by the way, i know one cleaning regimen doesn't work for every acne sufferer, but i have found that the ONLY thing to clear up my skin is washing with J&J head to toe baby wash (purpose) and putting a couple of drops of tea tree oil on a wet cotton ball for use as an astringent. every time i try anything different i break out HORRIBLY (cystic). put it on undiluted with a q-tip directly to a cyst or other breakout to get rid of it quickly and prevent scarring. this method has even pretty much gotten rid of my pms breakouts. now all i have left are red marks from old breakouts that i didn't use tea tree oil on

Re: Ketosis and acne??

Mimi: It's a weight-loss diet that has gotten very mixed reviews here in the US. Dr. Atkin's theory is that if you cut the amount of "BAD" carbohydrates (refined/processed foods) out of your diet, it sends your body into ketosis, or the state in which your body's metabolism speeds up and burns fat faster than it would if you were ingesting all those "bad" I guess its correlation to acne goes back to the infamous debate of whether food and acne affect each other!! Hope this helps!

Re: Ketosis and acne??

ive heard many good opinions on these types of diets being good, but im not sure.i read in an older post that some acne is caused by the way your body produces the hormone insulin,or something like not sure, but if you guys remember phillaser who use to post,he said that the atkins helped him somewhat with his acne, and theres also many people that said they were on the atkins and their skin was clear, but when they started eating alot of carbs ,they broke out.whats you guys opinions??

Re: Ketosis and acne??

I was on the atkins diet for over a year....a few years ago. I worked at a steak house, and ate steak everyday! That year was the clearest my skin had been in a while! Then I moved to a new city and started eating pasta, and potatoes again.....and my acne came back. I just recently put two and two together and have been trying to eat less carbs and more protein. Anyway I can honestly say my acne dissapeared when I was on atkins diet!!
