Doxycycline--how long does it take to work?

Hi. I was prescribed doxycycline last week. I'm wondering for those of you who have taken it, how long did you take it before you started seeing result?
    Thanks for your help.

Actually, I was prescribed Doxycycline this Tuesday and I've already noticed an improvemtnt, but of course it could be just the RA-Micro doing it's thing.

I'm on day 16 of doxy. I'm told it takes 8 - 12 weeks to work. Is this true? That's a helluva long time.

Anyone who's taken doxy -- how long before you saw good results? I'm not applying a topical along with it -- just the anti.

    Any input would be great!

I started taking two 100mg doses a day and saw improvement after a couple of days. But, it was short lived because my face went back to normal after about a week. Then I started to see some improvement after a month, then really great improvement after two. I still have some left over red marks, but not nearly as bad as they were 2 and a half months ago. So yeah, give it a couple months, it should work great for you people.

My experience with doxycline has been positive. I stopped breaking out almost immediately after I started using it (orthotricycline pill had made me break out really really bad - like almost two 2 cysts daily - I stopped taking it the day I started on doxycline). My face especially one side was covered with cysts. By one month most of it had cleared. I have now taken it for 21/2 months and I'm 100% clear - I have been taking 100mg a day from the beginning.

Thank for all of your replies. I'm going to try to not get frustrated. I've only been on it for 2 weeks and have been getting better but still breakout a little. Thanks for all of your help.

I saw immediate results, then a breakout, but I stuck it out and now 4 weeks later, I'm starting to see more permanant results...

my experience is you will start to see results maybe 4 weeks after you start the drug, but you may still be breaking out except that your condition will improve. After 12 weeks you will really see the results that you truly desire, for me my acne in facts become worst initially after taking doxycycline but it gets better after, also my experience has been that once you stopped taking it, you really have to take care of your health, i was sick 2 months after i take doxycycline and the acne all come back, then i switched to some herbal and vitamin supplements which helped for 6 months except that now my lifestyle has changed so the acne is coming back, today is my fourth days on accutane

Is this stronger than tetracycline? (sp) I am looking for an antibiotic that I can take and TTC (trying to conceive. The Dr has me on Keflex right now and it's not doing a darn bit of good.

hi. i was on tetracycline right before conceiving my first baby and the doctor quickly took me off of it. Also i don't think that you can take the doxycycline while trying to conceive either. I've read you should stop about 2 weeks before but some people may say even longer. You may want to ask your doctor. When I was pregnant the only thing my doctor allowed me to use was benzamycin.

Re: Doxycycline--how long does it take to work?

Today is day 21 (3 weeks) on doxy - generic.

My mom says that it looks much better. My skin feels smoother. But I'm still showing these small bumps -- like 8-10 on each cheeks. I also have some pinhead, scabby pimples scattered on my forehead. Will the antibiotics take a little longer and eventually smoothen out my face? Thank God I don't have any scarring.

I wash twice a day with Dove Sensitive skin soap. I exfoliate with yogurt every few days.

Everyone who posted earlier on this, please respond. Give me some guidance. Sometimes it just gets frustrating....

oh...to add...I think 90% of my acne has cleared. Now I just have those annoying bumps, irritated scabs, and a lot of hyperpigmentation from healing skin.

It took about three months for my acne to clear up completely after I started taking doxycycline. It does take time.

Re: Doxycycline--how long does it take to work?

i think it was doxycycline i took about 2-3 years ago and i HATED IT. for some reason the medication made me break out in cold sores, which at the time became more painful than my acne. whatever floats your boat. i had to stop taking it. i don't recall my skin clearing up that much either.
