    Acne Marks-broken blood vessels??

I have never had acne before, but then I started using glycolic acid, and I got acne.I had it for 3-4 months, then I stopped using the glycolic acid and the acne disappeared.(I also got antibiotics) I now have only red marks after it. And I wonder how long will it take before it goes away??
And what is really acne marks...I have red spots all over, but now they have startet to fade, and in the morning they are barely visible. But if I do anything...like work out or something, they get really visible! therefor it must be some kind of broken blood vessels?? (when I look really close to the red spots I can see tiny little blood vessels!)
Those of you having acne marks, have you got the same experience?that they are sometimes much more visible?
Have anyone had experience with photoderm or photofacial?? I wonder if this might help??

I would Also like to warn everyone from glycolic peels...as I wrote....I had beautiful skin before using it......

i know exactly what you're talking about. and the sucky thing is, the red marks are just as bad as having acne. no idea how to clear them up quickly. i think i heard vitamin c helps a little.

Yes I know..it's worse than having acne....I have cleared and I have no acne anymore (as I wrote I only had it for a couple of months, because of this acid I used.)
Now I am so depressed, mainly because I am afraid I will never be the same....I am so afraid that these red spots won't go away..ever...

    hey guys,
the red spots will go away. each about 6 weeks your face has all new skin. it will takes quite a few cycles of skin renewal to completely clear the red ( thats if your not still continously getting zits, because every zit leads to a red spot) use a moisterizer or something with AHA in it and it speeds the cycle extremely, to about 3 weeks. also Neutrogena pore refining cleanser has seemed to help me alot...Sandy

i use retin A on my red spots, it speeds it up alot. Ive been using it on my red spots for 3 weeks now, and they are nearly gone. (these ones were deep).

Dont worry, they do go away, but it just seems like forever... Just dont look at it, and in a few weeks, youll notice drastic improvement!
I get these zits that arent really zits, they have no pus, are the size of a pin head and soft, but they are RED, and leave marks for weeks... I dunno what they are... but anyways, try the retin A!

    Re: Acne Marks-broken blood vessels??

    Hi,
This is the second time I am trying to reply to your questions, this computer of mine needs to be thrown out.
Rosacea is a progressive vascular disorder and has four stages, Pre-rosacea, Mild, Moderate and Severe Rosacea.
There are nine major symptoms 1)facial redness 2)Facial Telangiectasia (broken blood vessels) 3)Facial Skin Hyper-Reactivity 4) Lumpy-Bumpy Facial Skin 5)Facial Papules 6)facial Pustules 7)Facial Burning 8)Facial Swelling 9)Rhinophyma. Not everyone will have all the symptoms and some will have more severe symptoms then others.
I am very familiar with the PhotoDerm Laser. I have had five treatments and it has cleared about 80% of the broken blood vessels. You must find a dermatologist that knows how to use the machine. They need to know how to set the different wave-lengths depending on your skin and depth of the blood vessels. They need to determine whether it should be single, double or triple pulse when they do the treatment.
It has proven out over time that people with Rosacea should NOT use Retin-A, glycolic acid, or any other skin stripping products. It make the problem worse and will make the treatment less effective. I would suggest everyone take the time to read Dr. Goeffrey Nase's book, called "Beating Rosacea"<p>[This message has been edited by snowlodg (edited 04-19-2002).]

    Re: Acne Marks-broken blood vessels??

    Hi again,
I have a few suggestions for those of us who have Rosacea and or senitive skin. Based on the experience of numerous friends on other Rosacea website, here are some of the things that those of us with Rosacea do to help ourselves.
We wash with cool water, we pat our skin dry or let it air dry. We use lots of different products for sensitive skin including, Neutrogena, Oily of Olay. We share what products have worked for us and what has not. We have found that no two of us are alike and when we find products that we can tolerate we stick with them until they do not work any more. We make sure the sun stays off our face and we use sun block everyday. We find a dermatologist that will listern to us and treat our degree of Rosacea. We gather as much information as we can find and share all out knowledge. If any of you have a question please ask and I will answer.

    Re: Acne Marks-broken blood vessels??

Thanks for all the info, Snowlodge. I am quite sure that this is not what I am suffering from.Well I don't know... The red spots I have are vascular, since they are very red when I do something of an effort. But since these red spots must have so tiny little broken blood vessels-do you think the photoderm could take them???
I think I've read somewhere that the smallest blood vessels are the one who are the most difficult to treat??? (It should be the other way around!!)
How will I know if the doctor knows how to handle the machine?I hope he does! I live in Norway, and I have only found 1 place that they do have photofacial....but they have more of it in Sweden (and more experience) SO I might go there....
Everywhere else they have just co2 laser, yag laser or erbium (I don't know the difference) But these lasers won't help do they???
Well, you've right about that glycolic acid and retin A is not good for everyone (like I experienced) It seems like people are so desperate to try anything that they put som much on their face, that maybe is not so good....
EVERYONE recommends AHA or retin A, but I can't use that....The acid was the cause of my whole problem.....
but can red spots that are vascular go away by themselves? or is it obvious that I have to use photoderm....?

    Re: Acne Marks-broken blood vessels??

    Hi Emma,
Not being able to see you skin, I cannot tell if PhotoDerm will take care of your problem. I would suggest you go to Sewden and see a doctor there that had worked with the PhotoDerm Laser. The other lasers you have mentioned do not work as well and it has been proven out over time and in studies that the PhotoDerm is the best for broken blood vessels. Doctors that have used this laser fo some time can tell what settings each individual person needs. I know it will cost more but the results fare well worth. You can get on the internet and also check out a Dr. Bittners website, he is located in California. This doctor trains other doctors on this equipment and this site is full of information.
In the medical community and cosmetic industry there is new thinking on how to take care of your skin. Instead of stripping layers off, the new thought is to "feed" the skin and use products that enhance all layers. The thought is if you give the skin what it is missing, it will correct itself. There are a few companies out there that are making products using soy at age"0" which is the closest DNA to the DNA in our skin. They take this age"0" soy and add other natural ingredients and make what is called "Absolutes" serums. Absolutes are the purest form of the product you can find. There is a company in Toronto, Canada that is making some of the best serums/absolutes out there. Also Cooper in a stable form has been found to be very healing to facial skin and wounds on the body. But you must find a serum or cream in which the cooper is stable.....what does that mean.....if the cream or serum is a green color when you look at it, it means the cooper is not stable. So be very careful not to waste your money. Let me know if you can find any of these products where you live.

    Re: Acne Marks-broken blood vessels??

Thank you for your advices snowlodge.
My red marks are probably a kind of burn/allergic reaction to the glycolic acid. ANd my derm says I will be as I was, it will go away...Even though I'm not suree, I think he is right about not doing anything t my skin right now..So I should probably let it heal itself (for up to 6 months...) Then if there still are any redness I can try the photoderm...
I've got like an "injury" by the gl.acid, so it's not something that has occured by itself, so I should probably let my skin alone for a while..
It sounds very logical what you are saying about not to peel the skin, instead give it wath's missing. I can't believe that all of these acids can be any good....it only makes your skin thinner..and then you get more sensitive.
What you are saying about the absolutes seems very interesting....but can I buy this anywhere??
Is there some type of brands you know of?
At the time I'm just using a moisturizer (oil free), but you know what...it's green! (it's chanel, precision for sensitive skin) I should maybe get something else...?
Have you tried anything of what they are making in toronto?
I think my skin could really like to have another "layer", because my outer layer was stripped away by the glycolic acid, so now I'm so sensitive....but I assume that this will repair itself.....there are new skin cells produced aren't there?
well, as I've said I'm from Norway, so please excuse my bad spelling <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">
