    Hereditary acne!!

Both my parents had acne. Unfortunetly my brother and I do as well. I'm currently 18 and have had acne for about 5 years, and been on Accutane twice. Been off Accutane for about 2 months, and it's all coming back. My brother is 22 and just started his second course of Accutane. Now, this basically gives me no hope of my acne just going away on its own if my brother is 22 and still has acne. So which leaves me to wonder, Can hereditary acne be stopped!?! One would think two Accutane courses would have done it.. Does anyone else suffer from hereditary acne? What do/can you do about it?? Someone please help.

I know exactly how you feel. Both my parents have problem skin-my dad has a little acne but pores the size of Texas and my mom is still breaking out.Great for me. I am clear but my face is full of large pores and red marks that have been there for months. I have been trying new things and they have worked somewhat, but nothing that solves the problem. I dont what to do. Maybe something will come along.

Yep. Not much we can do. My mum had acne well into her 30's, my dad was crystal clear, he had the skin any woman would kill for, lol... sigh... i take after my mum so i still got some years of suffering to go... She says i dont have nearly as bad as she did, maybe thats thanks to my dad having such good skin or maybe she just doesnt wanna make me feel bad or maybe she just doesnt remember anymore! anyway, looking at her now she has lovely skin, no marks, no pits, nothing... i think its cos she always took good care of her skin and never took the sun etc precisely cos she had a skin problem...

So to all of us out there suffering now, lets look forward to being beautiful old aged pensioners.

Anyway, i dont mean to dismiss what everyone here is going through. I, aswell as all you people know how hard it is and how depressed you can get over this. When i was at my very worst i wanted to die, i planned my suicide... i thought i couldnt go through life like this, that nobody would love me etc. But it does get better. you have to find what works well for you and stick with it and yours is a stubborn case of acne, then somehow you have to learn to live with it.

My Dad had acne until about age 27 and now maybe has 1 or 2 pok marks- not so bad. Mom also had acne but you could never tell- her skin today is very nice. I am almost 21 so can no longer blame my skin issues on hormones, but I can blame them on my parents! <IMG SRC=""> LOL!! I am on day 6 of accutane so hopefully this will help me.

    Re: Hereditary acne!!

My parents are in their early 50s, and they still get pimples. Nothing huge, and if I didn't suffer from acne, I probably would never even have noticed it.

My father says that in his 30s he would get deep, painful pimples...similar to what I was getting earlier this year! I never knew it, and I don't ever remember seeing him with acne. Weird, eh?

But, heredity is definitely not on my side. My brothers both had acne as teenagers and into their early 20s, and they have some scarring from it. But neither of them breaks out much now. I didn't break out in my early 20s, but started in my LATE 20s. Go figure.

One thing I have learned from battling with adult acne for over 1.5 years, you can't really stop it from the outside. Soaps and topicals are pointless, and all you will do is make your skin WORSE! I still have marks on my face from breakouts earlier this year. Now that I am more gentle on my skin, atleast the pimples don't seem to leave longterm marks.

I am not the only adult male at work with acne. There are quite a few guys in their early 30s that breakout just as much (or moreso) than I do. Still doesn't make me feel better when my face looks like crap. :P

You said that since you are 21, you can no longer blame your acne on hormones? That is just not true. Women can suffer from hormonal acne their entire lives, especially through menopause. If you have a hormonal imbalance it does not necessarily correct itself with age. That is what I am going through right now - I am 21 and my acne is much much worse when I am not on the is almost nonexistent when I am on the Pill.

I was also going to say that 21 year olds can definitely have hormonal acne. Try a pill like Yasmin or Diane 35--these are the best for acne.
