Re: Is anyone else here "old" with acne?

Hey, I too am 31. I have tried retin-a, differin, tetracycline and accutane without any lasting success. But what I have found recently and is REALLY working for me is a combo of Benzamycin and NeoStata's 8% Glycolic Acid Toning Solutioln. What's great about it is that is works and it is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers (I am of the later). They are both available by presciption. Also, I am going on number 6 of my micro-dermabrasion treatments. So far, my skin is very smooth and I noticed some good but not yet lasting results for scarring. My derm said that at first the results are not lasting, but that is a good sign of things to come. I'll see what happens. I am a pessimist though, as my glass is not only half empty, but it also has a chip around the rim and I will probably cut my lip (haha).

I am 30 with very mild acne, but it sucks nonetheless! Plus I am a model so when I get a zit I feel like it's the size of a golf ball and everyone is staring at it. HAHA! I use the Continuously Clear line by Serious Skin, available on the Home Shopping Network. And I use their Sulfur soap and Dry-Lo when I DO get a zit. It works GREAT for me!

I tried the Continuously Clear line by Serious Skin and it made me break out in tiny zits.

Re: Is anyone else here "old" with acne?

I'll be 30 next week! I've had acne since I was 13. I'm also a make-up obsessor. I will not go anywhere without make up on. And my skin care routine is ridiculous. I swear, if I didn't have acne, I'd have an extra 30-45 minutes every day. ANd having 2 little kids, that would be nice. I'm also a stay at home mom.

I used to only get wear make up if I knew I was going somewhere, but inevitably, someone would call us to come play, the UPS man would come or I'd see a neighbor and I'd be embarrassed because of my skin. So now I just get ready every day.

I've recently started using Clinac which has cut my oiliness a lot. Accutane is the only thing that totally cleared me up for a significant amount of time. I look young too and used to teach high school. Many days my skin looked worse than theirs!

First of all, I'm a youngan and thanks RAG for the kind words.
Secondly, there are many female responses to this topic and I appreciate all the input from anyone. I would like to hear more from older males with adult acne. How did it affect your life, career, dating, and everything else?

I am 31 mother of 2 . I can truely relate to you. I hated being seen during a bad break-out, but couldn't hide out in the house because I had to take my kids to school. Two months ago I tried proactiv as my last hope. After trying almost everything else..........and to my surprise it works. My skin is looking so good now, and I don't have to pour on the makeup. Try it, and I hope it does the same for you. Good luck.

Re: Is anyone else here "old" with acne?

WOW! Why don't all you people live by me? I swear I'm the only "older" person I know who has acne! Anyway, it's nice to see that I'm not alone with my acne and my feelings about it. Sigh. It's discouraging to hear of people in their 40's and 50's still with skin problems. I keep hoping that it'll all be over for me soon. But, I reckon as my hormones keep changing, eventually doing the menopause thing, etc., my skin will probably react in a bad way as it always has since I was in my teens. I think I'll go cry now...sniff. <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif"> Okay, moment of self-pity is over...I'll just keep dealing and trying different things (currently Sage products) and hope for the best. Thanks everyone for your replies!

    DeeJay,

Guys do count. But I think the treatment options are different between men and women (women having the option of going on birth control pills to control acne).

Re: Is anyone else here "old" with acne?

I'm 44, and I still have acne. I've gone through just about every treatment known, except for accutane. Antibiotics worked best for me, but I just don't want to stay on them indefinitely, so I went off of them in May. Now I'm watching my diet (trying to keep iodine as low as possible), icing my face, using Sage Skin Care products, taking some B-5 (but not massive amounts), and keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Is anyone else here "old" with acne?

i'm 31, and the mother of 2 as well..... the last couple years i've been fortunate to not have any breakouts.... but, i do owe it to "proactiv" and saw it mentioned in an earlier post.... i, too, tried everything else.... and this seemed to be the only thing that works... and keeps working for me..... i have a couple scars from the acne though... i had acne since 13, it stopped for a couple years from like 15-19.... and then badly from 19-25.... since then it hasn't been bad at all...and luckily almost stopped these last 2 yrs..... i know how ya'll feel..... and it does suck..... scars suck just as bad, if not more.....

REALLY? Maybe it was lifting out all the impurities or maybe you had an allergic reaction? That is the only line of products that works for me! Guess different products work for different skin!

Re: Is anyone else here "old" with acne?

I am a 29 year old male with acne. I started with severe breakouts at 16-17, then it kind of went away for a while....at about 25, it started up again. I went on Accutane in 2000 for four months...that has helped..i still get a break out on occasion, but it's managable. I'm just biding my time for when it finally stops.
