    Yasmin Journal

    Day 1

Welcome to my Yasmin-28 Birth Control Pill Journal.

Just popped my first pill at 12:00 Pacific Standard Time.

A little history on me: Have been on/off birth control for the past 2 years. Recently was on Alesse for almost 3 cycles, stopped mid-cycle the last month after suspecting it was giving me cystic acne on jawline and cheeks, along with mild hirutism on upper lip. Went to several doctors. Have been getting good results with Tazorac 0.1% cream (once nightly) along with exercise, vitamin supplements (1 gram of Vitamin C/day, 5,000 IU's of Vitamin E and 50 mg. of Zinc/Vitamin A/Copper combination) and green tea/water. I am an occassional smoker but have cut down since getting acne.

I am sexually active so I want to be on birth control not only to control my acne, but also to control having babies! Haha. I am a 19-year-old female college student and live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but am on vacation right now with my family on the West Coast.

Wish me luck! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I'm sort of a birth control veteren (been on Ortho-Tricyclen, Alesse and Diane-35) and also know lots of girls who have tried other various BCP's, including my roommate who has been on Diane-35, Marvelon, Ortho-Tricyclen and Alesse (which also gave her acne!).

Ortho-Tricyclen gave me an intial break-out. I had big pimples on my cheek and forehead. By the third month I cleared up and maybe had one zit a month, if I was unlucky. My other friend told me that she never, ever broke out while on Ortho. I would've stayed on it if it didn't make me the biggest ***** on the planet! :>

    Day 2

I woke up after 8 hours of sleep slightly nauseated. I'm used to BC nausea. But it sucks! I usually take my BC at night since I'm a night owl. The best thing to do is to take it with a little food and some tea.

Now I'm going to go for a run.

    Hi heartsicle,
Thanks for the journal, I'm really interested in starting Yasmin myself so I'd like to know how your experience goes. I'm currently on Diane right now, and its going pretty well except I think it gives me acne on my chin, and has also contributed to my cystic acne in general too. What kind of problems did you have on Diane?

I was only on Diane-35 for about two months. If anything, Diane-35 kept me clear for the time I was on it. What I noticed on Diane is that my emotions went flip flop. I was sort of new to the whole birth control thing at the time, so I could never sit myself down and say, "Hey, this is just the pill speaking..." I'm expecting some adverse emotional effects from the Yasmin, but hopefully I can keep my head on straight.

    Re: Yasmin Journal

BTW, my roommate who was on Diane-35 told me that, although it kept her generally clear (she suffers from mild/moderate persistant acne) it would give her huge cysts (and nothing else), which I guess still really sucks since cysts tend to scar worse. I guess it's better than like, 10,000,000 cysts, like Alesse would give me. But she really hated that aspect of it.

    Re: Yasmin Journal

Thanks heaps for the info Heartsicle, much appreciated. I've been on Diane for about a year now and its worked pretty well for me apart from a few cysts here and there, so dont worry you're not scaring me off using it =). I've noticed that Diane probably does worsen my moods though, for example if I'm depressed, it accentuates it so that I get really really upset. However its hard to tell whether thats just me or the pill... Tell me how Yasmin affects your moods as you progress thru the month please.
Also did you experience much weight gain with Diane? Or now with Yasmin?

    Day 3

It's too early to say if Yasmin is making me gain/lose weight. And I was only on Diane for two months. If I remember correctly, most every birth control I've been on has made me feel bloated. Also, I've started running frequently so I can't say if Yasmin is the culprit for my weight loss (I can finally fit into the jeans I wore when I was 16! Yay!) but from what I have read, Yasmin is supposed to be a diuretic, which means women who have had problems with water retention/bloatedness on the pill should see a relief of these types of symptoms. In fact, some women have reported weight LOSS on Yasmin.

Also, birth controls have made my boobs BALLOON! Not a bad thing, but that's usually where all the weight goes. This is only day three on Yasmin, so we'll see how things go.

So far, I haven't really felt anything significantly "birth control-y". Thankfully I didn't wake up nauseated this morning, and hopefully it'll stay that way.

Keep the questions coming! Hormones are scary and it's nice to be informed and know other ladies out there are going through the same thing.

    Day 4

    Woke up nauseated... again. Boooo.

Haven't broken out yet. I have these three large annoying pimples that I'm waiting for to heal. One of them I got because I slept on my side and I DROOLED!!! Ahahaha that's so gross but at least I know it isn't attributed to the Yasmin. The other two... well, the right side of my face always breaks out worse than the left.

Best thing to do if the pill gives you morning sickness is to eat something immediately, or drink tea. Which reminds me, my mom just cooked pancakes for Christmas breakfast. I'm outta here!

    Day 5

    No nausea this morning. Hooray!

Have noticed reduction in oil production. Coincidence? Maybe. But usually my forehead feels like someone poured a can of oil on it in the morning. This morning it's still oily, but doesn't feel as slick.

No break-outs so far. Thank god. Hopefully it'll stay this way.

    Re: Yasmin Journal

I'm really glad Yasmin seems to be working for you so far =). I'm really tempted to try it out myself because although Diane has helped my acne a lot, I seem to suffer from a lot more clogged pores now in my T-zone. But then again I'm scared that if I go off Diane, and Yasmin doesn't work, that my acne will get really bad again.. Oh well, we'll see...

    Day 6

No break-outs yet. The ones on my face are healing. Slower than I'd like, but healing nonetheless. Going to see if I get a break-out after a night of alcohol, Karaoke and smoke, but so far looks good.

Had a bought of moodiness that I KNEW was totally BC-inspired. I can tell because I'm cranky, like a little kid, rather than truly and genuinely ****** off. It's over, now, obviously.

    Keep the posts coming!

    Day 6

I fall asleep with make-up on, and I drank, and I've only gotten one zit as a result. This is AMAZING.

    Didn't wake up nauseated again.
