    Angry YASMIN --- AARRGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so I THOUGHT I made it through an initial breakout on this pill at week three and I actually could see myself clearing. Now at the end of week six..........BOOM ! Here I go again!!! I have two on my neck and little tiny oil filled ones all around my mouth. Does anyone else get the tiny ones above the top lip and under the nose??? I did not take the white pills because I am not using this for birth control, so I would think the stupid stuff is in my system enough by now wouldn't you?? I could understand this up and down thing IF I had other female homones in there.....but I went through surgical menopause almost 5 years ago ?!?!?! I am very frustrated !! Could this be the JOJOBA oil still bringing a few things out?? Of course that can't be because I don't use it on my neck. I drink 1 1/2 gallons of water a day, use the JOJOBA oil am and pm, take yasmin daily along with 50 mg of spiro and every other day 40 mg of accutane for lupus. I hate my life and feel like a failure.

Also on this yasmin, my breasts got tender by week 3 and then it seemed to be subsiding and now during this breakout they hurt again. How could that be if it is the same dosage in each pill?? I don't have any other estrogen fluctuating in there!! What a long ugly road this is and I am SICK of dealing with this.
While I realize it can take a few cycles to work everything out.......I DONT HAVE CYCLES!! :/ At this point I guess my cheeks are better, but all around my mouth and near my chin and jaw line is broken out again. And why would my breasts suddenly feel tender again.??? I will be starting my 7th week on all yellow pills on Thursday and I feel completely lost. I actually thought for the last 2 week that things were progressively getting better. Is is the yasmin?? Could it possibly be the jojoba oil? I try to believe that it wouldn't do this and I like it as a moisturizer, (been using for 6 weeks also)....What to do????

    Thanks for letting me vent
    L

Laur, I really feel for you because I know how frustrating this is. If you want to makae sure its not the jojoba oil, then the only thing you can do is stop using it for awhile. That will atleast put your mind at ease about whether or not it causes your break outs. A lot of people love jojoba oil, but there are always going to be people who can't use what eveyone else likes. As far as your yasmin, I know you don't have cycles but I really think you shouldn't skip any of the pills. I know alot of people do this but it can really mess up your system sometimes. Since you are getting so much tenderness in your breast and outbreaks on your neck, you may want to talk to your doctor again. The yasmin may not be for you. Maybe there is another one better for you. Plus, all this could be from the accutane. Its hard to say since you are using so many things right now. I really wish I could offer you more advice.

laur- why can't you take a higher dosage of spiro? i know that for me, i need to be on 100mg for it to keep me clear. i use to have acne like yours and i have been cyst free for 5 months now. i do get the occasional zit here and there, but nothing like i did before. but it works only if i'm at the higher dose. i understand your frustration... believe me, i have been there

    Thanks for the response!
As far as the yasmin, I did skip the inactive white pills, but continued with the yellow active pills not missing any days. As far as the Jojoba oil, I guess I really don't think its that because as I said I don't use it on my neck and I have broken out there, and I DO use it on my cheeks and haven't broken out there anymore in the last 3 weeks really. My cheeks are clearing and the Derm did say the area around the mouth is the last to clear and the hardest. I just can't help but think that without any other female hormones to contradict what the yasmin is trying to do, that I would be clearing completely. If I still had "that time of the month" to worry about, I would feel differently, but these are the only female hormones in there right now. Of course I guess after 5 years without, it will take my body some getting used to. My dr. feels that by staying on the yellow pills consistantly, there will be NO fluctuation in hormones, just the same thing every day.
As far as the accutane goes, while you are right about it being a possibility of being the culprit, I have been taking this med as a maintenance dose for 3 years or so....first 5 pills per week and then down to 4 and now every other day. While it never cleared me completely, it did help...however, being that this may be hormonal (after menopause a higher level of testosterone and no estrogen to counter act it), and being that to maintain some type of clear skin I would have to use it 5 days per week, I am trying to keep it at a very small dose and find something else that will work.
Things get tricky with the lupus and it makes this all so much harder. I admit to being tired of trying things that don't work. I am hopeful about the yasmin and my dr feels it will work given time (easy for hime to say), however I am not patient and this feels like an incredible set back.

As far as Birth control goes....when do some of the side effects level off and is it just a coincidence that my breasts are more tender in the last few days and my face has broken out again?? I don't know if this is a side effect you just always have while you take the pill or is it something that your body eventually gets used to?
I will tell you all that the hysterectomy I had (no matter how much I may have needed it) was something that changed my entire life. It brought out the lupus and wrecked my skin completely. At 38 I look and feel 80. I just want a little piece of myself back again.

Thanks for the response. I did try spiro at 150 mg and it was so awful drying that It actually made things worse because of the irritation and breakouts in the dry areas. Of course this was before starting the yasmin so I haven't tried it that high since . I have thought about at least increasing it to 75 mg per day, however with the yasmin having a diuretic effect and this too and taking the accutane every other day, I'm not sure it would work for me.
Mr dr. pretty much gives me full reign to do what I want with my meds, within reason of course, I suppose because I have gone to him for so long. I never do anything that I know will hurt me and research everything prior to making a change, but the one thing I've never understood was birth control pills.
Actually in 1992 I started taking spiro 125mg per day and it cleared me up and kept me almost crystal clear for about 5 years, and then my hormones went nuts and I had to have a hysterectomy and between the before and after of that my skin was never the same. I had never had cystic acne before, just mild when I first started the spiro.......boy was that a change to see!! It appeared here and there at first, and then became more persistant until after the surgery...Boom there it was and I knew I was in for a battle. Don't get me wrong, the spiro is a great med, but it seemed to stop working or my hormones just became stronger. Even back then jumping up the dose to 200 did nothing to it.
so on to accutane it was which was supposed to "Clear it right up"......HA!
    Then the lupus came on.....
And here I sit 5 years later and still baffled at why nothing seems to work. I am hoping that the combo of spiro and yasmin will be enough to keep me under control once and for all...and yes I may increase the dose by just a bit to see if it helps.
I appreciate your reply and am glad to see that it has worked so well for you.
    I'll keep you posted.
    Thanks
    Laur

I personally think that the tender breasts and breakout are probably related to the Yasmin. Also, from reading your posts, your level of frustration, although understandable, might have increased cause of the change of hormones as well. When I first started on Yasmin a couple of months ago, the same thing happened to me. Emotionally, I felt awful and my breasts wanted to explode and I experienced spotting. This did eventually pass. Certainly your medical history is different from mine, but please hold out alittle longer. Your body is shocked to have new hormones pumped into it regardless of your hysterectomy. But the majority of people seem to do well with Yasmin, given about three months of use.

Thanks to all of you for the advice. I will try to hold out and stay on the yasmin for a while longer. You are all right about my Level of frustration. The past 5 years has been a rollercoaster for me and I just really want to feel like myself again. It's hard to have an illnes like this because of all of the different twists and turns it takes...one minute I'm fine and the next I feel like a train hit me and I'm literally too tired to move. I guess that's why I'm so focused on my skin. I want control again. We always know there is someone else out there with a bigger problem, but it still doesn't make our challenges any easier. I probably pay too close of attention to my skin and LONG for the day that I can just wash my face, apply whatever, and GO!!! I know all of you feel or have felt the same way. I can deal with a lot that may be going on inside my body but I feel very self conscious about my skin. I feel like a teenager. In reality I have a wonderful husband and daughter, and I'm a stay at home mom........life has treated me more than fair in so many ways and I am grateful. It's just hard sometimes to want something to work sooo bad and then have it fail. and with this acne, it has been a constant series of trial for a few months and then ultimate failure of every product I have tried. I want to get past this sooo bad and be happy again, but this is always there lurking.
But thanks again to all of you. I will proceed as I have been for awhile longer.

NOTE: Can you even believe last week I went to the dermy and my skin looked pretty good. I mentioned that I may have finally found what I needed to work for me......Life is such a drama!!!!!

How long have you been on Spiro?
A month ago, I tried taking Spiro with Diane-35 (which I'd been on for a year), and broke out like ****. I thought it was an initial breakout, but then other Spiro users reported that they hadn't experienced an initial breakout. I believe it was the combo of Diane and Spiro that made things worse. By day 12, I stopped the Spiro and began to clear up, abeit slowly. I'm now just taking Diane. Anyway, Diane and Yasmin has similar properties and is made by the same company, so perhaps I could relate to you. Maybe you could try dropping the Spiro and stick with Yasmin, or drop Yasmin and stay on Spiro and try another BCP with it.
