Low oxygen level and feeling unwell!

I had to travel a to a hospital appointment two days ago which is a long way from home, but in the morning i noticed i felt a bit unwell and breathless, i have a finger oxymeter and my oxygen levels were at 93%, i knew this was a bit low and i really struggled to get to walk because of the breathlessness. When i felt really unwell i would check it and it went down to 89% but it would keep coming up again and i could carry on.
That night when i got home i was feeling so unwell with exhaustion as i had had to get 7 trains that day and ddo lots of walking, i went straight to bed but felt ill all night with my oxygen level going up and down all the time, i was burning up like i had a bad fever and i felt totally out of it, like i was on illegal drugs or something. The next morning i just terrible and like i was 'drunk' or 'drugged up'.....i really struggled to get out of bed and my oxygen level again went up and down like a yoyo all day long. Now is day 3 and again i keep having these spells of suddenly feeling unwell an dso breathless and my oxygen level is low again, then later on i feel ok and its up again.

I do have trouble with my heart heart as i had chemotherapy four years ago and since then my heart won't stop racing, i take bisoprolol 5mg to force it to slow down and not one dr can work out why it races. I had a holter monitor on for 3 days and my heart dr just wrote saying that my heart beats from 77bpm to 177 bpm and it seemed to happen more when i was moving around!! I'm guessing she is politely saying i'm very unfit or overweight and she then said she doesn't need to see me again. So i am left with a heart that races wildly and when it does i can't move or do anything.

But this dropping of oxygen is not nice, the last time i had it was last year and i had a blood clot in my lung, but i don't have any symptoms of a blood clot like last time. Does anyone know why my body would keep dropping its oxygen level, it really does make me feel so unwell when its happening and all i can do is sit in a chair quietly as i feel faint if i try to do anything.

I wold appreciate any help.

Re: Low oxygen level and feeling unwell!

Have you been checked for atrial fibrillation? Those are the same symptoms I had before I had a procedure this spring to freeze nerve nodes around my heart that caused it.

Re: Low oxygen level and feeling unwell!

Your heart can speed up in response to low oxygen, and activity can lower your oxygen in certain conditions. You generally need evaluated by a pulmonologist, looking for possible asthma or other lung conditions, and a cardiologist, looking for any heart reasons why your oxygen is dropping. These 2 specialists should be able to get to the bottom of what is wrong.

Re: Low oxygen level and feeling unwell!

I agree with the 1st response. Afib will cause these symptoms, minus a fever if you actually had one or you just felt that way because if the low oxygen and increased heart rate. I'm assuming you're on a blood thinner already because of the pulmonary embolism you had, but if you're this symptomatic I would definitely see a cardiologist and/or pulmonologist. Best of health!

Re: Low oxygen level and feeling unwell!

Was there ever any cause determined for why you had a pulmonary emboli? An underlying condition could provide clues as to the oxygen problem.
